If a candidate supports a stance you find so abhorrent that you think it is reasonable to try and get some fired for holding that same stance how can you justify financially supporting that candidate.

I agree with the toaster-lover on this.

I guess the Tea Party supports everything that Ted Cruz does because they have given plenty of money him amirite?

These situations are not remotely similar. So every candidate you have pledged money to means you endorse 100% of their policies?

I guess everyone that ever endorsed Todd Akin believes in "legitimate rape".

This comparison is dubious at best.

But, but, but we are fighting a war in the middle east to bring democracy to the oppressed.

And now all of a sudden democracy is a bad thing?

Ummm, just what war is the US fighting in the middle east at the moment? Apparently it's one that no one other than you knows is happening.

I think you missed the point. Name something that Ted Cruz supports that the Tea Party has led a lynch mob against?

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of accountability for said speech :D

This is true but times change. Are people going to dig on your facebook back a decade and hold stuff against you even if it was the popular opinion at the time? A-la anti-gay and 1980's.

This is actually the precise reason I don't have a FB. Because people and society in general learns, my opinions will change a decade from now I'm sure. I'll be less ignorant. Facebook and public records like it however are forever. People really misinterpret stuff that you say online. If they said it online a decade ago its surely how they think now! Its a total flaw.

This is nothing new, in 1828 Andrew Jackson was accused of adultery when the opposing party accused him of having relations with his current wife before she was divorced from her previous husband, which had all happened over 30 years before the election.

The solution is not to be a recluse hiding away from society just in case they find out that you are a jackass. The key is having empathy for your fellow human being and not be a jackass in the first place.

I think what Overvolt was trying to say, is that what society considers being a "jackass" today, is different than what it will be 10 or even 5 years from now. And those people from 2025 who are seeing/reading thoughts and ideas from 2014 Smogzinn, are most likely not going to give those thoughts or ideas the benefit of the passage of time.

I understood what he is saying, what I'm saying is that it is pretty easy to predict what will no longer be acceptable in 30 years from now. If you hate Group X because of intrinsic quality Y, then you are a jackass and eventually society will leave you behind. That was true in the 1800's and it is true now.

If you learn to stop hating people then you don't have to worry about it catching up to you.
