They apparently built a magnetohydrodynamic drive into a sub a la The Hunt for Red October

(One ping only Priscilly)

Oh and Happy April Fools (Probably)

They’re going to need a lot of caterpillars but they will be silent.

Great book, decent to good movie. Just not as good as the book.
It’s a favorite of mine, but it starred Alec Baldwin who conservative bot accounts like @IJTSSG have to hate.

It was also directed by John McTiernan who did Die Hard and Predator, so the guy knows his action/thriller movies.

Love that movie for his quote:

"Listen, I'm a politician, which means I'm a cheat and a liar, and when I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their lollipops."
Sum of all Fears is my favorite Tom Clancy movie. Especially the scene where Morgan Freeman & Ben Affleck are flying to Russia. Affleck has hid who he works for from Bridgete Moynahan and has to call her to cancel a date. Freeman tells him go ahead and tell her she'll be impressed. Freemans laugh makes the whole scene.

USS Montana is expected to undergo sea trials on the Penobscot River in Maine. This will make it more difficult for the Russian Navy to observe the tests.

The caterpillar drive propulsions is still in its infancy. Whether the Penobscot River will be the end of the story, or the beginning of a new chapter, remains to be seen. Either way, Montana will remain unseen.

I would like to have seen Montana...

Why are they leaking military secret in a project name?

The Magnetohydrodynamic drive is being developed under the PUMP program by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), first reported in 2023.

Alec stars in two of my favorite movies Heaven's Prisoners and The Getaway so no issues with Alec.

But hey, don't ever pass up an opportunity to post something really stupid and ignorant. You wouldn't be doing you if you did.

That 3 movie run for McTiernan is god level. There aren't many comparable.

It's a decent movie, but I'm not really a fan of how big a departure it is from the book. Also, don't really like Affleck in that role. It really killed any chance of adapting the later novels which is unfortunate. Although, it would be REALLY tough to shoot Debt of Honor these days if they left in one critical plot point.

Probably already leaked on Space and Aviation Weekly.
