I've seen the first episode. Basically 2 americans explore the world's martial arts and see how they stack up against their top offerings. There is 1 220lb+ football/wrestler and a 170lb mma fighter. This episode they (1 of them) train to fight vs muai thai champ. It's on right now on History channel.

i'm watching it now. this jason chambers guy looks like a complete noob. Is he just pretending to not know anything muay thai? I looked up his sherdog fighter profile 16-5-1 overall but he's only 1-4-1 in his last 6 fights. Washed up much?

And how long do they spend at each sight? Seems silly if they only spend a couple weeks

You have to know that those muay thai fighers are going at about 25%. A kick from one of those little guys could easily fracture your leg bone or ribs if you aren't trained to defend it. An elbow could slice your head open. Looks like a cool show though.

The end was lame too. That little Thai guy could have whooped his ass, but he was clearly restrained.

Bill Duff

Pro football player, bodyguard, wrestler and stunt double, Bill Duff holds a brown belt in Korean street fighting (Toa So Dou) under Master Davis of the Wa Wrang Studios in Riverside, NJ. Duff is a two-time heavyweight state champion wrestler, member of the NJ Hall of fame, and undefeated in bar fights.

LOL whatever

I knew him in college and he wasn't undefeated then, he was untested. Not many people want to mess with a guy his size not even drunk college guys. He was quite a trip to hang out with.

I caught that show. It's an intriguing premise, but it's all too obvious that all involved (referring to the Thais) were massively restrained in order to keep from putting an epic beatdown on those guys.

I watch the show because it's fascinating to watch the pros and masters in their element. I could definitely do without watching them try to fight people who have been practicing a style their whole lives. The Thai guy he fought at the end seemed more bemused than anything else. I mean, why try to fight a master of a martial art when you've only been at it for a few weeks? I'd much rather see you try to spend a day/week/month in the life, training alongside that guy. That way, you get the immersion of a new style, and the viewer gets to watch a master at work.

So it's fixed? Gutted...

Check out the British show Last Man Standing - 3 English and 3 American athletes compete against primitive tribes and traditional peoples at their own games. Zulu stick fighting, Indian wrestling, high altitude endurance racing, etc. Good stuff and totally not fixed or choreographed, i.e, people get their heads smashed open.

Those Muay Thai fighters would have killed the show hosts if they were really fighting. You can't spend 16 hours per day for several years training with a master of the art and not be incomparably better than some idiot who comes in, does a move five times, then goes on to "learn" the next move.

I guess the History Channel doesn't want to foot the bill for spinal reconstruction surgery. :p

They should have matched the guys up with similar opponents to their skill level and let them have it out.

It borders on the melodramatic. You get the shaking camera every time someone gets hit and the hosts are like little girls: Like,OMG we could get totally hurt by this HUMAN WEAPON! Please. It could have been better, but I am going to season pass it on my tivo. I want to see one of these dunces get their head split in the eskrima episode. That would make it all better.

Peace

One kick from one of those 14 year olds would send jumbo to the hospital.
