Depends on the company and the job duties. Do both people have direct reports? Then probably about the same.

If there's a large company, there are plenty of HR jobs that aren't focused on the legal aspects. If it's a smaller company, you wind up as jack of all trades.

Yup, I'm a "jack-of-all-trades" type.

There are two of us, my boss and me, for a company of ~ 300 people. Not only do I do HR, but I am a managing supervisor of three coffee shops that our organization operates as well...we're a non-profit and the coffee shops are Work Experience type jobs...

our HR people are these mythical beings who only "exist" through our IP telephones and email, and NONE of us have ever seen them.

they all work at a different campus.

I got a chill down my spine when I saw the VP of HR's name on my caller id. I thought someone had turned me in for telling an off-color joke or something. Turns out he just wanted to invite me to a poker game.

Yah....not everyone in HR is uptight and introverts.

I avoid our HR lady like the plague. She's a mean lady. I've never had to go in and chat with her, luckily. A buddy of mine here at work, however, seems to get called in for something or another on a weekly basis.

Hmmmmm...most of the HR girls I know are pretty good looking.

The times I have delt with HR it has been fine. The HR person at the new company is really helpful and keen.

I also see a distinct lack of guys in HR.
