Not surprised to see Its a better overall movie and has the correct length of time. The monster gives you more thrills and the storyline is a lot better. You actually care for the people in The Host a lot more and you don't get any stupid acting.

The Host

Cloverfield

?The Host? (2006)
The best big-monster movie of the last decade comes from South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, with an assist from the special-effects wizards of Peter Jackson?s WETA shop. Thanks to some extremely realistic CGI design, the river-dwelling creature shows up surprisingly early in the movie ? traditionally in this type of film, we don?t see the whole monster until the last few scenes ? with a nail-biting surprise attack on a curious (and quickly terrified) crowd. ?The Host? is a great example of the notion that effects are only part of what makes a great sci-fi film ? without a thrilling and compelling story too, you?re sunk. Let?s hope the creators of ?Cloverfield? understand this too.

I like sci-fi, I like horror, I like foreign movies, and I like the two Korean movies I've seen. I love kim chee, soondubu jigae, and yuk gae jang . . .

But I did not like "The Host." Overrated IMO. The film tries to hard to be like Hollywood, had some annoying acting and a lousy plot, it wasn't scary, and it dragged. I did enjoy the tidbits of Korean culture and a few of the humorous moments.

The think the reason most people don't like The Host is because of the ending. Its a proven fact that everyone follows everyone else if a ending of a movie is like that

i love how when something comes out that is comparable to something older, that people have to get their panties in a bunch if the older one is a favorite of theirs and people like the new one.

especially when they try to bring people to the other side and putting down the current one that people are enjoying.

I saw the host and I saw cloverfield. I'm not sure how they really even compare. The hose was a better movie though.

You are one of the few that will say that because most must follow.

I liked the Host, but you are being a whiny (i'm thinking asian) bitch who is just wrong about Cloverfield. They are both just MONSTER MOVIES. Cloverfield is much more a rip off of Godzilla than the Host. Godzilla and the Cloverfield monster are both big, city destroying monsters, while Host had a much smaller monster that hid out in the sewers and came out to feed. That's one cool, original thing that the Host did.

Saying that Cloverfield is a rip off of Host is just straight up idiotic. Moron.

The Host sucked ass!!!! I didn't give a rat's ass about anything that was happening in that movie. It was a snooze-fest and I didn't need the subtitles. Cloverfield had me from the start. I'm usually a big fan of SKH but The Host sux! Get over yourself.

The ending was the best thing about The Host! Just like with The Mist! The reason The Host didn't do well in America because they had to dub it and make it sound stupid. Without the dubbing its a lot better movie.

I disagree. It actually had a story. It was like Little Miss Sunshine but with a monster!

what hype? ive never heard of it

When it came out the reviews were just fawning. The critic in the New Yorker said he had seen it twice and planned to see it again, and made it sound like the most fun movie he'd seen in years. Suffice it to say I didn't agree.

Bah, RT rates Superbad @ 87%. I hate that site. Knocked Up was decent but that didn't even deserve an 87, let alone Superbad.

Purbeast, when it comes to movies / entertainment, stop thinking what I think damnit! :D

It's true though. Some people also really get caught up on wanting to claim they knew the original first.

I saw Cloverfield yesterday and have never seen a movie that made me feel so immersed as it did.

I normally hate the shaky came stuff but it worked well for this movie.

I thought it kicked ass!

I'll check out The Host though.

Watching The Host felt like eating a soggy piece of bread. Watching Cloverfield felt like eating a breakfast burrito while sitting in a car with no suspension driving down a road full of pot holes.

I vote Cloverfield. Breakfast burrito > bread.
