I've been reading this book on and off for the past seven years and I'm glad to say that I'm almost finish. It is by far the best religious text I've ever read. The text is written in a poetic style and very simple to understand. Furthermore, the writers had a strong belief in their cause and the romanticism is self-evident throughout the book. The "People of the Book" (Jews, Chrisitians, as well as muslims) are treated with the utmost respect and "infidel" can easily apply to anyone that opposes the basic teachings of Islam.

I really don't know if other non-muslims have read the koran as much as I've had, but the notion of it being virally against judaism and christianity is utter stupidity.

From what I recall, it's not "virally" against it, it just has one line which, when interpreted a certain way, implies that Muslims should kill anyone who is not Muslim. It is this line that hardline fundamentalists bend to their needs in their war against us.

They must publish the Coles version on the net, because every Koran I've found there is only about a hundred pages long, and would take less than a couple hours to read.

Perhaps you need to start visiting local mosques and ask them where the hatred comes from then?

I also read The Koran, about a year ago. The vitriol against Jews is pretty evident; that is why I am suspicious of your statement that you actually read it.

Since you say you read The Koran, please enlighten us with the rules or code of "protecting" Christians and Jews.
I will give you a clue, the word starts with the letter D.

I told you that I've been reading it off and on for seven years. Do you think I'm going to remember a specific part about protecting jews and christians. For your info, my version is by Mr. and Mrs. Ahmad Zidan by Islamic Inc. Publishing and Distribution.

Another reason for my reading is because it has the text in English and Arabic and I'm trying to learn the latter.

Furthermore, unless you've studied islamic history (as I have) you will understand Muhammed's anger at the Jews. First off, they dismissed jesus as being a prophet of God. Second, the Jews in Mecca deounced the new religion. That was the reason why Muhammed changed the direction of prayer from Jerusalem (his original choice) to Mecca.

As for Christians, they believed that Jesus was God (Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit). And Christians like to draw pictures of God and the other prophets.

I'm not using these reasons as an excuse for anti-jewish or anti-christian sentiments in the muslim world, but these are the main differences between islam and the two older religion.

Jimbo, I have the Koran in front of me right now. Why don't you show me the passage that you are referring to.

Would someone explain the Hadiths and how they fit into the Muslim religion please.
