The Holiday Inn is making me angry

I'm on travel for 3 weeks and brought my x-box to pass the time. I plugged in it into the jacks on the back of the TV but couldn't figure out how to change the input on the TV. Nothing on the control and nothing on the TV. So I called the front desk and they said that the inputs have been disabled. Probably so they can charge you for movies and games through their service.

This makes me so angry. It most likely took more money to modify the TVs and disable the inputs than to leave it alone. I complained to the manager, and he said I should talk to the tech guy in the morning.

I don't have much hope. Does anyone have any ideas?

the coax cable is likely soldered onto the connector on the TV.

check first, then buy
Surely it isn't soldered to the wall jack as well. Could connect it to that side.

Pretty much all hotels are like.

Well, atleast the big baller ones are. Go to some cheap hotel, or perhaps a family owned, non-franchise one.

Well then he needs some wire cutters, some coax ends, and a crimper. :)

The TV's we have at work, in a hospital, are commercial types where you have a special remote to program functions, channels etc., and than there are the standard remotes for patients to use with the TV. With the programmer remote, you can block accesss to the menus and functions.

1) Stay at a nicer hotel than Holiday Inn
2) Read a book
3) Bring a laptop along and just game on that

well, not necessarily. nicer hotel would just more likely to provide you with their 'service' of movies and games and on demand, etc.

in this case, however, i think you have a good chance in getting what you need just by asking. just tell them what you want to do (play games with your XBox) and ask nicely. it will do the trick.

yeah usually if ur staying at the same plae for 3 weeks stright they will do everything possible to make ur stay plesent and to ur liking...I knew a guy that stayed in a motel for a month and they let him do his own laundry and gave him keys to a couple extra places just so he could have stuff at his convenience...very trusting people ran the place though and not a national chain ;)

Go to a yard sale and pick up a small tv or ask them if you can borrow a vcr or something and then disconnect it and use your xbox (dunno if they do this there or not).

They've got a hard black covering on both ends of the cable and I can't unscrew it.

And in three weeks we will see a post SHERIDAN wants me to pay $150 to repair the cabling I screwed up trying to play my XBOX

Either buy a small TV OR Read a book.

Well it may not work but I guess you could give this a shot. I was searching around the internet one day and found my TV (Samsung TXN2726) has a service menu available if you punch in a certain remote sequence of keys. One of the options on this service menu was to enable hotel mode. Not sure exactly what this mode does as I have not enabled it myself but it may be like what you're experiencing. You could try researching on the internet and see if there's a way to get at the hotel TV's service menu and disable hotel mode. Once you leave just re-enable the mode and thus no harm no foul.

read a frickin book

This brings up another point. It really bothers me that everyone always suggests reading books for fun. I don't like to read books for fun. I like video games. People think that you are an idiot if you don't like to read and I think that's just silly and ignorant.

I also like to fly airplanes. So every time one of your hobbies isn't available, should I say "fly a frickin airplane?" No, because you might not enjoy that.
