The hole in the corner of the P4 heatspreader.

What is its purpose?

I've heard anything from it's an index marker to install the cpu, it's a vent to prevent heat from building up and causing the cpu to explode! Does anyone know why it's there? If you kill the cpu it's a good drilling point for a keychain. 🙂 Those ceramic PGA's needed diamond drills! :Q

Cheers!

actually it's merely a vent so the epoxy/glue they use to affix the heatspreader doesn't cause it to pop off when it's drying/creating vapors.

Correct... It's just there for assembly purposes. It should be of no concern to the end user.

unless you're really the anal type... and you find out that your thermal paste just seeped down in there and now you have paste inside and you can't clean it... 😀
