The windy, rainy, cloudy, dreary, wet, caffeine-laden bustling Washington metropolis beat out San Jose by more than $44K a year.

The "Cybercities" report, which examines everything from average commute time to venture capital investments and quality of life quotients, says a very healthy software industry in the city helped push average high-tech wages in 1998 to $129,300, or 50% more than the average high-tech wage paid in San Jose ($85,100). Seattle's high-tech average wage was also some 200% more than the average private sector wage in Seattle

I live in the Seattle area and I know that my Wife makes some really good scratch working in the tech feild. Come on up, the weather has been really nice for the past few weeks. :) A little cold but no rain.

Yeah, I recently saw on the news saying Seattle area has the highest paid tech jobs too, averaging $130,000 a year...

Haha, then I will probably come down from Vancouver after I graduate to get some $$...

west coast, bah!

last time i was in SF they wanted $95 for a cab ride, WTF? I'll stick to the midwest where i can still get a gallon of gas for $1.30, gallon of milk for $1.20, and a loaf of bread for 69 cents. makes my salary look a bit larger if you figure in how expensive things are out there, and cheap back here.

I visited a friend in downtown San Fransisco, she had a tiny apt on the 24th floor of a building, with no extras, for $2400 a month, for her alone.

My apt on the other hand looks over the lovely Huron River, is only on the 2nd floor, has a lot of grass outside to play football on, has washer/dryer, dishwasher, tons of room, and is close to everything and anything i need. My portion of the rent is $212

of course this started out as an internship, but they found out about my tech skills, and started me on my Oracle path :)

i have been offered a full time job, i will probably come back when i go to College Park, unless i have an on campus DBA job by then :p
