i would like to see the Constitution abolished because of the high taxes it has allowed for.

sucks ass that people dont realize that taxes dont increase overall happiness but it sucks even more ass that so many people support violence without realizing it doesnt make them happier... only retards do that. only retards cant reason outside the box. i mean, i dont know how anyone could ever be happy with what the State provides or what it ever could provide. and the more it provides, the less can be produced, the more things cost, the less can be consumed.

EDIT: sorry about the brain fart... i hadnt seen the article before i commented.

In all fairness, you have to add in the state income taxes as well. Having said that, we are still getting screwed on what we pay for. Overpriced healthcare that doesn't crack the top 10? Insanely high-priced higher education and an infrastructure that is falling apart?

US? EU? Nope.

The answer is....<drum rolls....> Aruba.

US is 34, even behind China. I don't think other developing countries are enforcing their tax laws as well as our beloved IRS.

Fairly meaningless comparison.

E.g., those countries don't have state income taxes. We'd be much higher up on that list if the state income taxes were taken into account.

So many other things need to be considered. Some countries have high exemptions. France has an unusual system whereby income is averaged among household members. E.g., if a married couple has 2 kids and one spouse works making $100,000 you'd take $100k/4 = $25k and go look at the income tax chart and find the tax on $25K. Then multiply the result by 4. For people with families this results in a low effective rate.

In Ontario the top rate for provincial and federal is 42% and you hit that after a measly 500k. 200k still about 40%.

It sucks ass that some people don't realize there are studies showing some of the happiest nations on the planet are more liberal/socialistic than the USA.

*waits for some retard who can't reason outside of the box to mention Cuba or a similar, crappy nation*

The top five highest taxing first world countries are: Denmark, Sweden, France, Belgium, and Finland. The US is pretty far down the list.

If the US was able to provide the level of services + benefits + quality of life of those Scandinavian countries while taking 55% of EVERYONES check - I'd be ecstatic as well as most people.

Too bad our Govt is corrupt and could care less about the middle class -

The government would gladly take 55%. Too bad you wouldn't get much for it.

I think you are confused between effective/average tax rate vs. marginal tax rate.

Effective/average tax rate is percentage of money that the government take from you. Marginal tax rate is the tax bracket that your income fall into. For instant, with an income of $85,000 your marginal tax rate (bracket) is 41.7% for Federal + Toronto provincial income tax (portion of money that is taxed between $85,000 and $89,999).

AND the govt and its suck-ups would still insist it wasn't enough, would still just turn it into even larger debts and would still whine at anyone who actually expected some logical return for paying the lion's share of it.
