GW told his buddies: "Listen, everybody says the Gulf War was about oil. I don't want them to say that this time. So how about keeping the prices down?"
So now that majority of the war is over, they are not holding the line any more (on prices).

You really should ask Miss Cleo for a refund, she really can't read the President's mind.

I was right, you do talk to Miss Cleo. Thanks for the confirmation!

"are you one of those folks Miss Clea said GW was talking to? "

I don't know, never felt the need to call her.

<< Yo,
Forget OPEC. American oil companies gouge the USA market worse than any other entity.

If you ever start a reply with "Yo" again I will smack you.

:)

That being said, summertime is still quite a ways away, this is called anal-molestation of a stupid and un-suspecting public....

I how people think that because price are rising profits must be SKY ROCKETING!

THat simply isn't the case.

We are entering into the part of the year when the gas companies MUST Provide oxigenated gas to help with pulution.

Because they have to do maintenance and GEAR UP for this change the refineries SHUT DOWN, Suply goes down, proces rise.

Also because every state has their own unique blend of polution freindly gas the refiners have to make adjustments to the supply lines and the logistical nightmare that will shortly ensue.

All the while the majority of uniformed people here ASSUME that this is the time of year that the BIG OIL MEENIES are going to bend you over.

FACE THE FACTS-

While oil is profitible the level of investment required to get gas to the pump is huge in compared to the profits that follow.

Go check some finacial statements and tell me WHY you think the oil companies should sell at a loss so you can cheaply drive your SUV around. (I have a Truck BUT I NEVER BITCH ABOUT THE COST OF GAS).

That happened at a few stations in Atlanta as well. There was fear that the attack was going to cause a drought on the oil supply. Some over-reacted, some tried to take advantage. Everyone that raised their prices to such levels were smacked down by local officials.

yes, after 9/11 a bunch of ppl were freaking out, there were lines at the gas station around here, although no serious price gouging -- like it would cause some shortage or something

Also, with regard to 9/11, there was a drop off in air travel, yes, but after the intial wave of stranded travelers made their way home, people were less likely to take car trips either. People wanted to stay at home with their famillies, and even went out less...less demand, lower prices. Prices have gone up a lot around Dallas, but there is a wide discrepancy based on where you go..for example one night two weeks ago I bought gas at Sam's for 99cents/gal, and the gas station by my house was charging $1.24 (Sam's is about 15 miles away).
