and thermal grease also and i have..
a rubber band to keep it on it

remove thermal tape, use just thermal goo and make sure heat sink is on tight by runbbin the sink on GPU tightly. then try again.

I did that with a Voodoo3, and it got worse too, and I have learned my lesson and won't take off the stock fans/hs anymore! =)
