I've just got myself an asus A7V133 motherboard with an Athlon 1Gig,25MbSDram133, and the temperature readings, both standard and overclocked(just using the bus settings; I haven't unlocked the cpu yet!) are a bit disturbing.

With the default 1Ghz setting, the CPU temperature crawls its way up to about 70 degs CELCIUS after only half an hour.
I have managed to set the bus speed up to 130Mhz giving me the equivelant of a 1.3Ghz Athlon without any stability issues, but again the temperature begins to hit 75C.

I am worried that I am about to fry the whole system!
Is the chat in this board about Asus temp readings being incorrect, true? or have I got a problem with the heatsink/fan setup.
Could the reason be that the air intake for my case blows air straight from the psu over the cpu. or is it just the bios temperature readings taking the p*ss.

SO, What's the score then? At what cpu-temperature should I start getting worried?

I hope I'm not repeating too much of previous threads in this board, but I could really do with some good advice.

Thanks in advance all!

Thanx for the quick reply!
Here are some extra stats... the temp in the previous post was measured from windows and not the bios.... here's the correct info.

As far as the heatsink and paste goes... I've not got any paste.. the heatsink has a conductive pad on it... The heatsink is a generic brand I think... just what the vendor recommended with the rest of the set-up.

Could the problem be my power supply?
PSU settings
235Watt
+3.3 = 14.0A
+5 = 22.0A
+12 = 8.0A
+5Vsb= .8A
-5V = 0.3A
-12 = 0.8A

Cpu temp = 54/129 (c/f)
Mb temp = 36/96.5

Motherboard bios 1002A-1 (02/05/2001)
The bios shows +3.3 is actually running at 3.568v (is this a problem)

The core voltage is reading at 1.75 rather than 1.7v.

Any help appreciated!😎:Q🙂

Definately trade in that generic hsf for a better one if you are going to overclock. And clean off any of that thermal pad and use Artic Silver or any "good" quality thermal compound. Otherwise you are going to be very hot and very limited with your OC.

Many good fans available.... Check out this review for one in range that you can afford and tolerate (some are loud 🙁 ) 2coolteks review

although the temperature is high... I seem to have no stability problems... is this a good sign... what are the risks of running at these temperatures?

Other than that... I'll have to go on a hunt for some if this paste then...

Thanks again !
