Bizarre times in a crazy country.
People from all walks and professions are fully capable of being hypocritical idiots. He likely justified/rationalized it to himself in his own mind that he was "doing the right thing" too.

But yeah...if anyone there should have known better...it'd be the former and/or off-duty LEOs and military.

Not to belabour the point, but a retired, or even serving, cop simply being present and participating in a general way in the riot would not in itself shock me. But that the guy specifically violently attacked a cop who was doing the very job that he himself apparently used to do - protecting government officials - is really quite something. I wonder if he felt he had some special licence to attack what he saw as 'one of his own'? Or is it that he felt he knew cops were all bad people because he'd been one himself and he knew himself to be a nasty-peice-of-work? (I await Moonbeam to chime in with his theories about self-hatred!)

He's in a cult, his actions and others cannot be explained outside of that context.

Distort D’Newza says the Capitol riot didn’t happen and was made up by Democrats.

He’s gone full Chewbacca defense.

Two mental midgets from my town weren't even smart enough to make it to the Capital, they got their dumb asses arrested in DC on 1/5. One on multiple weapons charges, the other for driving a bus without the proper permits or something.

Looked them up on the board of election site, only one of them voted in Nov 2020, the other registered in 2016 but had never voted. Both registered as republican, but no surprise there.
Article in today's local paper about our local claim to shame, the nimrod that got arrested on illegal weapons charges the day before the insurrection.

He on the socialist dole, doesn't work but collects some disability. Wonder if he would have been a Trump supporter if Trump had been successful in stopping all these "socialist" agendas, like disability benefits.

Always amazes me when people choose ideology over their own self interest. Cutting your nose off in spite, yeah

A leader of the far-right organization is a transgender woman? Fascinating on so many levels.
WOW! And when they say "you can't make this shit up" they knew what they were talking about.
(s)He was a decorated Army vet that served in Afghanistan.

Fascinating doesn't even come close. This a combat vet who CHOSE to violate the Constitution and her Oath as an officer to....get this....support the man who would DENY her the ability to serve in the military if she wanted to do so today. Never mind voting against your own best interests, she rioted against them.

I think he has really lost his mind since The Plan! didn't happen on the 20th.

I’m guessing he’s going through some life changes which has stressed him to the point where he’s all in on crazy. Had he been a decent person before his complete break down I actually might give a shit but since he’s never been anything but a troll I have zero fucks to give.

Well if you had a bit more of a social safety net, a better government funded mental health service, better state funded schooling and better regulation of "news" outlets so that they couldn't join in on misinformation campaigns and actually presented the facts then, yes, a bit more "socialism" might have helped everyone.
