Complaint to management.
Either that or turn up your music louder than his when he is sleeping or something.
Uh I guess the best way is the find someone pretty heavy and jump up and down. That way his ceiling will start shaking and maybe make some dust fall.

is this a dorm? usually there are routines, like telling dorm supervisors. i dont suggest facing him face to face.

i had that problem once.

I turned on my stereo, turned up the bass all the way and turned the speakers face down on the floor. I then went out for the day.

that was all it took.

Ask him if he could turn down the bass a little bit. Going to authority is obnoxious and shows you are a jackass because he's gonna obviously know it ws you that complained.

I know exactly how you feel... it's one of the reasons I hated living in a condo.

Our neighbors were all pretty nice, but one of them had a teenage daughter who would invite her boyfriend over every now and then for a loud stereo jam session.

But I found out much to my surprise that going down and asking them if they minded turning down the stereo worked pretty well. I think I was always under the impression they were inconsiderate jagoffs, when in fact they were nice but oblivious to the fact that sound carries.

EDIT: nm... you live in a dorm. It's probably chock full of inconsiderate jagoffs... you're screwed. :p

Just deal with it, you are in college.. why do you even care? Just put on your own music. I can see getting pissed if it was at like 11 or 12 at night but I mean seriously, don't be that pathetic fvcking bitch who lives above me :p

well, i have my headphones on right now. and so the bass isn't really audible but i can feel it in my hands, my chest, and my feet. also my alarm clock keeps getting knocked off my night stand, keyboard is flying around, and my mx1000 is moving like mad. :D

and i care because its just obnoxious and i am trying to do some homework. i guess i could go to the library, eh? meh. its just obnoxious is all.

lol had the same thing happen to me......just jumping up and down a few times did the trick. well it was my roomate (240lbs) and myself (220lbs) jumping in unison. they once came up cuz they thought the roof was going to come down on them (there was a bunch of flex to the floor of the dorm hehe) so they waved their little white flag and surrendered to the power of 460lbs!!! we did it once a in a while whenever we heard even the faintest of noise. haha.

I had situations like this when I lived in my apartment.

The first time, being a nice guy like I am :), I confronted the offenders in person...and nearly got my backside whupped.

After that, I just called the "office" and they would send someone out... if that didn't work I called the police. (only had to do this once...apparently I wasn't the only one cause that guy was evicted a couple weeks later).

But being completely inconsiderate of others by blasting your music isn't being a jackass? Personally (I have a bit of lockpicking experience) I'd make my way into his room when he's at class and "modify" his stereo system...

meeting face to face has a higher chance of a negative outcome. take care of it via authorities will be safer.

He turns down the music at night and waits until the afternoon to turn it on. THat is considerate of folks who are trying to sleep. When you move into a community living situation you must understand taht noise is going to be a contributing factor unless your in an old folks home. So long as the noise is kept between the waking jhours it should be tolerated.

On the topic of going to management verses trying to be neighborly face to face first. I weould never ever ever respect someone who went to management first before trying to ask nicely.

What kind of social reject immediately goes to the management? Ask politely first, if that doesn't work, then think about going to the higher-ups.

Don't be a jerkoff and jump on the ceiling like these people are saying... I hate when the person above me does this (at 4pm on a friday afternoon). Be a man and go tell them face to face... everytime I hear banging on my ceiling I just turn it up louder and louder until I can't hear it anymore. If she were to come down and tell me it's too loud I'd be much more apt to appease her whiney bitching.

And I'm not doing this at unreasonable times.. I am playing music on a Friday or Saturday night at a very reasonable volume.

?? This is a simple issue, go next door knock, and say "Hey man, I've got a big test tonight that I'm studying for and your music is bothering me, would you please turn it down a bit?" Calling someone else before trying to remedy the problem will only make things worse.

My neighbors for instance have called the police 6 times in the past 2 months for noise, 4 times we weren't even there for the police to cite us, 1 time the officer came to the door at 4 AM and woke us up then apologized profusely, and the sixth time the officer came to the door I lost it and read him the city ordinance that states that the sound must be audible 50 feet outside of the dwelling to be considered an offense, and as it was not audible he should not come to my door to bother me. I also told him that I was considering filing the appropriate paperwork to take action against my neighbors harassment. He said that he agreed with me and I told him to have a nice day. This DOESN'T make me want to go out of my way to be nice to my neighbors. Do the sensible thing and ask him politely to turn it down, if he is unreasonable, then escalate it.

Go down and ask if he could turn it down. If he doesn't report it.

No harm in trying the friendly way, right?

Here is what you need to do, go to the local rent-it center get a high end stereo with the biggest speakers they have, rent it for a couple days, lay the speakers on the floor, put in a cd of star wars......on bagpipes.......put in on repeat and go on vacation for a couple days.
