And when someone is killing their kids, they'll be bitching that the cops were too slow.

Meanwhile, school officials' initial reaction was to ask the officer not to wear his gun and uniform to school, they are now saying they want to turn this incident into "a teachable moment."

In other words use it as leverage for brainwashing in some way.

Fuck schools and their attempting to monopolize kids' input.

Its less about schools trying to monopolize kid's input and more about trying to navigate through the oceans of batshit crazy and over litigious parents who vote in the school policy makers

It's still overboard unless there is more to the story

The liberal efforts to completely rip the nuts off our society continue unabated...

My parents grew up on farms and were using firearms at an extremely young age. They were driving far before they were 16. They had rough and tumble experiences dealing with badgers, stillborn calves, etc etc... they got injured. They had a sense of the world as a result. They learned confidence and competence in dealing with a wide array of issues they might face later in life.

I'm ashamed that I represent a huge drop from their generation in these qualities, but good lord... kids these days and more importantly, their parents, are working really hard to make even my soft ass look like friggin' Chuck Norris by comparison.

I've never heard about a country with more extremes than the US.

Fuck this. Taking my niece and nephew shooting again and encouraging them to share pics and vids with friends.

They can keep their targets to take and show off too.

So tired of the negative stigma towards firearms taught in schools.

You should have them put the names of their teachers at the top of the target so they make sure they don't get them mixed up when they take them in for show and tell :sneaky:

The teachable moment lesson is "this principal is a complete dumbass."

I was at the shooting range with my dad at 10 years old and have so far managed to never shoot anybody in my entire life - I agree with the above sentiments, the schools are going too far and getting to the point of ridiculousness.

I think my parents still have pics of me solo at 7 or 8 mid recoil with a S&W model 19 .357 Magnum.

I became addicted to the smell of used gunpowder quite early.

Hmm,

From the title I thought this was about Wayne Lapierre telling everyone the only thing between you and rapists and muggers when you walk down the street is a concealed weapon.

But this article seems equally stupid.

I wish that every person who is vehemently anti-gun had a single friend who is a responsible gun owner. This friend should take the anti-gun person to a range to show them how guns operate and let them take their time inspecting the components, inspecting the ammo, comparing various guns and action types, and firing various guns. There is a lot of ignorance in this country on most issues, but it seems like gun control is one of the worst. A little education should show these people that guns aren't some evil killing devices that "go off" if you even look at them the wrong way. Just the answers in this survey make me sad for the lack of knowledge that most people have: http://reason.com/blog/2013/01/30/assault-weapon-described

I am not to surprised. I know at my children's school Elementary school the principal has been working with the local sheriff's department. The principal had to tell the parents several times that just because their is a patrol car parked out front of the school doesn't mean something bad happened. He has encouraged the deputies to come by and has made the front office available for them to stop by if they need a bathroom, someplace to sit and write reports or just some cold water. Seems like a good move by me.

In fairness to the school officials, this happened in Maricopa County. Law enforcement is kind of scary there with Joe Arpaio waging his private war on anyone who doesn't look like Joe Arpaio.

Yep, trust cops with guns. For show and tell, i brought my dad. He's a cop. His name is Chris Dorner and we can trust him because he has a badge. Can't trust his buddies though, they have badges too. But they'll shoot at anything that moves and get away with it!

Some of these sound sarcastic.
"A WAY TO TAKE OUT A LOT OF PEOPLE WITHOUT HAVING TO RELOAD." :awe:

Some of them sound like confused immigrants.
"SOMETHING THAT CAN KILL AND HURT PEOPLE REAL BAD MAKE THEM BECOME DISABLE OR LOOSE THEIR LIFE"

I like this one the best.
"ANYTHING THAT SHOOTS MORE THAN ONE BULLET AT A TIME."

Those are the people they should be afraid of, not the guns but the police.

There is a lot of shit I don't agree with, there are even things that would drive me to make a last stand in defense of my liberty and property left no other option. But I've never heard of a cop shooting down school children.

Even Chris Dorner was merciful and let civilians go and only targeted what he believed to be crooked cops and their families.
