The greatest game of BF 1942 EVER!

I could give details, but I'll just tell you how it ends. We win by 1 point. In the closing moments of the game we were behind 2-9 and we got 9 of them while they only got 1 of us. The whole game nobody owned all the control points so this was pure attrition. I ended up with the silver star. My highlights were 2 jeep kills on infantry and 3 control points taken solo against multiple enemies.

Just wanted to let you all know that the greatest game of BF 1942 ever has been played. Sorry you missed it.

Does BattleField 1942 have a single player campaign? I don't want to buy this game just for multiplayer, even though it's geared directly for it...

It has a single plyer game but, it is exactly like the multiplayer only with computer bots as players instead of real people.

It is still well worth buying but, I wouldn't buy it If I didn't buy broadband.

The AI in the single player campaigns is ok... You will find jeeps driving from point A to point B, only to drive back to point A again, and continue the pattern till an enemy comes by. Same thing with ground troops sometimes... They will just pace back and forth until you give them direction like calling for help, or an enemy comes by...

You just bought GTA3? So how is it running on your system? Mine worked a hell of a lot better once I stuck the 1600+ over the 1ghz Duron

Well, my system gets a little laggy when at night with a lot of lights and lens flares at 1280x960x32 with render depth as far out as possible, etc. But still very playable - and it looks GORGEOUS.

no, I played the best game ever last night

we (axis) were down big... like 100 points behind on the map with the windmill and two bridges. My team kept farting around trying to shoot down the bomber with AA while they held all the checkpoints. I finally just jumped in a tank and single handedly took three checkpoints. My team seemed to wake up and started spawning at the checkpoints, we took over the tanks, and won a minor victory.

Needless to say, first place finish for me. Best game I've played so far.

I had a few hilarious moments the other day. I was playing Midway and a bomber was attacking us on our carrier. For some reason he was flying REALLY slow and very close to the deck. Out of frustration I shot at him frantically with my Thompson submachine gun. He blew up!

Another time this bomber was harassing our base on one of the desert levels. He decided to try to take out two panzers with one bombing run. Too bad we had gunners on both and the guys in the tanks were shooting machine guns too. He flew toward us into a rain of machine gun fire and exploded. It was like that scene in pearl harbor.

I had the funnest time I have ever had playing BF the other night with just 4 people. Me and 3 other guys (that I didn't know) were on Gazala, I believe. It was the desert map with the airfield in the northwest corner that doesn't have a post to claim and the map has a bunch of canyons.

Anyways we started off by sky diving out of the bomber after we got it really high in the air. If you do it though, make sure you don't pull your chute til the very end, or you will be in the air forever. Also take a bunch of screen shots of each other and the plane while you are in mid air. I was trying to get shots of us and the ground (when it came into view). It would be cool if you could do some flips or something in the air as well :)
Also we started getting on the wings of the bomber and sky diving off from real high as well, it was fun that way too.

The sky diving was pretty fun, but the best thing was plane switching in mid air. Hehe I did it once and it was fun. One guy starts flying a bomber and another gets in one of those faster fighter planes. You get above and a little behind the bomber and position yourself as good as possible. Then you bail out and aim for the bomber, if you get near it enough, you hit the use key and you are in. Its pretty freakin cool the first time you do it.
Caution: Make sure you don't land directly on the bomber or hit the use key as soon as you get near it, or you will die due to fall damage ;)

Another fun thing on that map was canyon flying. Try getting in one of those fast fighters, turn on some mp3s, and try and fly low through those canyons. Its pretty intense and very relieving if you can make it all the way through. It is also a good way to practice flying.

The last really cool thing we were doing was picking each other up in the airplanes without stopping. One guy needs to get on the edge/top of a mountain and the other in a bomber/two-seater plane. The pilot (who needs to be a decent flyer) flies in low to your position and you just jump and hit the use key and you can make it in. Hehe its pretty fun to try, I never could be the pilot on this stunt, cause I crashed to much......

Some of these things may sound stupid, but they are really fun to try and really rewarding when you complete them. Just a note, it makes things easier if you turn off team balance so all the "stuntmen" can be on one team. It just makes it easier when you all spawn in one point. Hehe and its tempting to shoot each other if you aren't on the same team :)

** If anyone is interested in doing a bunch of stunts and just messing around, I will pword protect my BF server so we can get on and mess around. PM me if you are interested. **

The bots on any setting other than easy are very tough. They essentially cheat because they always know where you are and are accurate at long range with machine guns. On easy they're like knocking over dominos.

My favorite thing to do is use the engineer and drop exp packs. On Omaha Beach I planted an explosive on one of the ramps leading up to the top and waited for an enemy to charge up the hill. Well, some guy comes riding up in a Jeep. As he's right over the exp pack I detonate it and he goes flying in the air the equivalent of 60 feet straight up.

Best game of BF1942 I've been involved in. Map is Omaha Beach, I am on the Axis team. Each team had about 12 people on it, so it was a fairly even match and good pace.

The allies have pushed the Axis back to the top spawn point and control the beach and mid-level ones. At this point I think both teams had about 100 tickets left. It became a war of attrition that the Allies were slowly winning. After a bit, when the tickets were both in the 50-60 range, I got tired of spawning->going to ramp->kill->be killed. So I figured out a plan to do one last ditch effort to win the map (note, allies lose tickets if they only control one spawn point).

I spawned as Medic, which is nothing special since I almost always use medic. Went to the far right of the map if you are looking towards the beach. Walked thru the barb-wire and healed myself (I love doing this with the medic). Slid down the wall, which is actually a bit tricky cuz if you do it wrong, you fall and die. Walked over to the trenches in the middle approaching from the far right. Staying above the trenches on the little ledges, I walked towards the flag point. Two or three allies spawned in the machine gun nest, ran out, turned the opposite direction from me (right turn for them), and went on their way to the ramp. I was tempted to shoot them, but figured stealth was a better option.

Got to the flag point, and sat there hoping no one ran by. Flag went grey. Got attacked by one allie who I killed. I ran away and healed myself. Came back and an allie was waiting by the grey flag, killed him. Soon the flag switched to the Axis and I got reinforcements.

At this point, it was about 40 tickets for Axis, 45 for Allies. But as the Allies only had one flag point, they would lose a ticket a second. Less than 30 seconds later, Axis win the round with about 30-35 tickets left in a minor victory. Damn impressive considering we had our backs to the wall and could have lost very easily. And I was quite happy being the one that did it.

How are the servers for the retail game?

Since the retail came out, the demo servers have obviously gone down the crapper. I can't find a decent server with a ping lower than 100. When the demo first came out, I was hitting 48ms for a lot of good ones. Are there a lot of good servers out there for this game? Any ones with 64 players, yet?

I just bought the game thanks to the FS/T forum so I guess I'll see for myself soon. :D

In my experience and opinion, I think a lot of servers (Including EAs which I think are terrible) are set to host too many people. This game is extremely cpu intensive and a 32 person server requires at least a P4. A lot of the lag you get seems to be cpu lag and not network lag. Even though this game is a network bandwidth hog as well, I think the problem lies within the code of the game not being very efficient. Thus using a lot of CPU bandwidth. However, I am not a big programmer so I can't verify this or back it up with evidence. I set my server to 24 people, so if you get lag on it, it's probably going to be the packetshaper. If this is the case it can be tweaked to fix the problem. I would gestimate that a smooth running 64 person server would have to be a dual P4 (or dual Athlon of the same capacity).

I can't even get off of Liberty Island, much less beat the game. I'm stuck on a few missions.
