Ishmael - I've read the whole series. The ideas presented have hit me harder than almost any other book, besides Zen and the Art of Motocycle Maintenance.
1984
Animal Farm
Paradise Lost - I'm reading it now and I am truly enjoying it.
The Divine Comedy

Recent:
Kite Runner
Thank You for Smoking
Freakonomics (not a novel) - I've heard very good things about this book.

I was actually supposed to read The Great Gatsby for school. I did not do so, not because I chose not to, but because I procrastinated and eventually forgot about it. Now, I may go back and read it since you guys say it is so good.

The Great Gatsby SUCKED. I'm sure it was a lot easier to be a great book when there were only 7 of them (j/k - sort of).

Ishmael - by Daniel Quinn was great, but my favorite by far is The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan.

Gravity's Rainbow. Thomas Pynchon. 750 or so pages of inspired, if sometimes uneven, madness, wth the kitchen sink thrown in.

Two things are certain:

Tyrone Slothrop is The Dude.

Herero tribesman from Deutsch Sudwest Afrika as Nazi Swartzkommandos running around raining V-2's down on England in WWll are the clan, man.
