You do realise people ALWAYS charge rip-off prices for cables, right? It's the done thing, especially to make money.
$2 USB cables in retail stores go for like $15. It's nothing new.

Is this happening all over?

Give it some time after release.. You'll be able to get them from Ebay for less than $20, possibly less than $10

Honestly I dont want to offend. Can someone tell me why people think that the Xbox 360 is a ripoff? At $400 it seems like a good deal considering the following facts.

X2 4800+ Dual Core: $800

7800GTX 512MB: $700

Yet the Xbox 360 has a tri-core Power PC processor and the ATI Xenos GPU all for $400. Sure the games will be expensive, but money-wise, it still seems like a good deal.

However I'm still a newb to this since im still gaming on a SNES and a Dell with e GeForce 4 MX 420. My graphics abilities are so lame its rediculous.

Not to mention Just like with the original Xbox, Microsoft loses money for every XBox 360 they sell. Making it one of the very few consumer items you can purchase Below their production costs.

The Xbox cables use a proprietary connector on the Xbox end. The Xbox 360 does not support digital video output, at this time. It may be added later. It does support optical SPDIF out.

The $300 ("Tard Pack") basic package is a total ripoff, as it doesn't even have full functionality. The $400 package at least gets you full usage of the platform.

Microsoft seels the hardware at a loss, just to get it into homes. The money comes on licensing, a little bit from every game and accessory.

As far as comparing to a PC, well there is no comparison. The only way the Xbox could win is if the customer wanted nothing more than limited email and web surfing. This is the reincarnation of MS's WebTV. If you need a computer, you still need a computer.

People have been buying Monster cables for years, so they are used to getting bent over. Were suposed to think their made of better copper I guess.

Well, Monster IS usually better materials and construction than what comes packaged in most boxes.

But #1: Monster charges too much for what they are.

But#2: Buy cables that suit the rest of your equipment. $100 cables with a $100 stereo makes no sense. $5 cables with a $10000 stereo, duh.

I like IXOS cables, but Acoustic Research is my new favorite. Inexpensive, quality, and available at stores like BB. Check out the link in Jello's sig for Cables for Less.

If you're going to cry about the price of the xbox360, cables, blah, blah, blah, then don't buy one. It's a simple solution.

The XBox 360 is heavily subsidized by MS. I don't understand how anybody can talk about "ripoff" under such circumstances?

Graphics are pretty amazing. I saw COD2 demo at walmart on display yesterday on a 20inch widescreen LCD and I coulda sworn the graphics were on par with a Geforce 6800 PC system.

I too seen a demo on a 20inch at my local wal-mart. My system with a 6600GT in it looks just as nice if not a little better(the way they got it setup anyway). IMO Xbox won't pass the PC up gfx wise, by the time games come that look better than the ones on PC we should see UT2007 which again IMO looks better than about anything I've see today. Also I think UT2007 if coming for Xbox and I expect it to look just as good but not better than the PC version. It's just got a beefy CPU/GPU in it because thats got to last it for 5 years and we won't see them really being used I don't think for at least a year or 2 down the road.

Consoles are just catching up again but in the next 3-4 years PC games will pass them back up because 360 hardware will start showing some age.

From Anand:

The $299 core system gives you the same console (with a white DVD tray cover), a wired controller, and standard composite AV cables; there's no hard drive, headset or remote.
