"The Great Divide," in short, is a Michael Moore movie in book form. And like a Moore movie, it is dangerous for Democrats."

The authors of "The Great Divide" apparently think that if they can portray President Bush's supporters as stupid and evil and unnecessary, they will hasten the rule of Democratic America. Kerry should ignore them.

Unfortunately it seems kerry and edwards aren't ignoring them.

Hehe - I thought this line was one of the most revealing that they pulled out of the book.
"voters in Iowa and New Hampshire have little relevance to a Democratic victory."

How does that make all you Iowans and N.Hampshirites feel?

Interesting...very interesting.

This is the same book that points out the red states get more government benefits than they pay in taxes. In other words, the blue states are helping them out since apparently the red states they can't take care of themselves despite claiming they value work and being self-sufficient.

Sorry, my quote snip link might have given you the wrong impression - it was not written by moore - it was written by democrat partisans.

As a resident of a red state, NYAH NYAH!

OTOH, I suspect a great deal of that is simply an effect of population density. For example, federally funded highways. There aren't too many people in western kansas to pay for I-70, but it's existence is advantagous outside the immediate vicinity. Now the agriculture subsidies, which lead to high fructose corn syrup being an ingredient in EVERYTHING....

The lower population also leads to greater per-capita representation in the Senate.

So Moore is a perfectly objective documentarian with no political agenda?

If we really wanted to end our dependence on foreign oil, we could just throw Limbaugh and Moore together.
How much do they both weigh? *mumble*250lbs/2.2k/lb...speed of light squared*mumble*

First off, how is this any different than President Bush marginalizing the state of Massachusetts because he thinks everyone there is a liberal elitist or some such nonsense? Or Republicans using wedge issues like abortion, religion and stem cell research (among others) to divide and "conquer?"

Secondly, I think the article points out some valid concerns:

(A) The Electoral College system is a joke. It's completely broken and needs to be fixed. Lately, I think it can be fixed on a state-by-state basis by enacting something similar to what CO has on the ballot this year -- a split electoral vote system.

(B) The nomination process is equally a joke. It completely marginalizes every other state besides Iowa and New Hampshire. I agree, as a CA resident, I could give a rat's ass what voters in those two states think. Why doesn't my opinion/vote count?
