The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly: Verizon DSL in NJ

I'm looking at getting faster internet connection (read faster than 56k) for home. I did some preliminary research and learned that I am about 7000 ft from the nearest CO for DSL. Should I stay away from Verizon or even DSL for that matter? Cable is a lot more expensive... And I can only get Optimum Online from Cablevision.

The only issue with Verizon DSL is getting them to come out at the date promised.
For cable, all you gotta do is just plug it into the cable jack and you're basically up and running.

Only 7000ft? That's close enough. Verizon states you have to be within 15,000ft of the nearest co to receive the free dl/ul upgrades they are implementing later this year.

I've had just about every cable internet service in NJ (Comcast, Opt. Online(twice), RCN)
and Opt Online is by far the best.

i 2nd that. exprnsive but super reliable. You never worry about outage, never.

Here's another vote for Optimum Online. Its fantastic and so far I have never experienced any problems with it unlike my friend who has Verizon DSL. He has constant problems with them and they are very expensive for him (its hooked up at his business). They didn't give him that speed increase that was in the Hot Deals section because he was "too far" from their central office...what a joke.
