Its not so much the story (although it is great), but its the style of shots, lighting, etc. that makes it the masterpiece that it is.

The Godfather just hasn't aged well. However, the hype around it and the fact that it was revolutionary at the time produces the mega-fanboys that dominate in this thread.

Heat is a great movie (one of my favorites), but it's not really stereotypical organized crime. Otherwise, I'd have Chinatown at 1 or 2 on my list.
