The future of windows is still 3D, I think. But not the 3D people expect, as in a 3D game with wierd rooms / etc. But 3D as in, 3D icons / etc. Very high detail graphics that can create nice affects. Creating a 2D enviroment with 3D graphics can create a very nice and very powerful affect.

I recall reading about a litestep-ish shell a few years back that was 3D and had a nice look to it.
 
holy crap that video is confusing, I hope they never implement that idea. Just give me dual monitors that work FLAWLESSLY before you give me that crap.

Although the automatic resizing looks promising, the other stuff is just stupid/overkill/pointless.
