The future of windows is 3D?

I remember about 1-2 years ago I saw a long video on MS's website (at least, i THINK it was on Microsofts website) interviewing a person about the future of the windows GUI. Basically, it showed a long hallway in 3d, and the "windows" or applications were pictures on the wall. And you'd have to walk down the hallway to view each application. It seemed a bit screwy to me, and i'm wondering if this is indeed where Windows is headed.
Does anyone know what i'm talking about? I'd like to view this video again, but I can't find it for the life of me. Is this really how longhorn is going to look?

Edit: Video found, it can be viewed here

yeah, you get your 3d glasses from a McDonald's Happy Meal.... 😉

I remember a few years ago there was a 3D web browser....it was posted on here. I wonder if I could dig up that thread?

Anyways, I remember that my PC at the time couldn't render it and kept crashing. 🙂

VRML

attempting to render 3D environments in a markup language...who was smoking what in the where now?

no, i don't think so. i saw a person using a beta during a talk, and it wasn't 3d. pretty different from xp though, things seemed a little aesthetically messier tho more oriented towards finding what you use often.

The 3D room GUI video, used to be on research.microsoft.com. If they're still hosting it, that's where it'll be.

I found it! Its at http://research.microsoft.com/adapt/TaskGallery/
Unfortunatly, I can't seem to get the video working, as the link doesn't work. Maybe someone can dig it up somehow. The site still has a ton of imagines and gifs showing what i was talking about.

Edit: Here is the video

I remember that browser. I think tabbed browsing is easier to use.

I've heard that the new Longhorn might not even be sold as boxed products. The original thinking was that the OS would be so advanced, the final build would only be available on new PCs shipping at time of release. That way MS wouldn't have to waste time/money supporting legacy hardware with this OS. Is this still true?
