Can somebody refresh my mind on what future CPU's are planned for it? Is Thoroughbred the last before moving to a different socket?

Looks like it is. AMD ditched the Duron first, then their other Socket A projects. They're focused on the Hammer very much, while the Athlon architecture has already reached its limits in terms of GHz headroom and features. I don't think the extra 256KB of cache would have helped the Athlon.

NO! The thoroughbred is not the last processor to be based on socket a as booster said. The Barton with 512K L2 cache is going to be based on socket A as well. It will be the last K7 athlon.

Barton may or may not be released. It is very unclear on its future at this point. It may be released, but it may not be.We shall see
