Just went to ebay and thought I'd see if anyone had a 6000 just for kicks right there are two of them
the one above and another for 1200 I mean why is it that this card is still so attractive?

<< jeeeez. I just clicked on the link. why the hell is that card so big??? >>

4 GPUs and 128MB=big-ass card. I wouldn't mind having one of those just for the hell of it but $1200 is crazy.

How does the Voodoo5 6000 size up to a GF4 4600?

EDIT: This is ignoring the price and I meant in terms of performance. The pun was not intended.

I'd take one of those, because it'd be a huge bragging right!
But for that much... let me think about it... NO!
I'd just take... oh never mind

The GF4 should be significantly quicker with or without anti-aliasing, whereas the V5 will provide a slightly higher-quality image. The V5 is definitely MUCH bigger, for whatever that's worth

<< how much WOULD you spend on a v5 6000? >>

Up to 500 bucks, probably, if it was mint.

'Cause then I'd sell if for 2-3 times that. 😀😀

<< i did't even know there was a 6000, i thought they didn't make voodoo's anymore since nvidia bought em out. >>

Any V5 6K's out are engineering samples, the product was never released.

At the time it would have kicked ass, but given today's cards the V5 6K is a piece of history, nothing more.

Where would you get drivers for an engineering sample of a card based on a discontinued line of cards? Even if it *could be* fast you probably couldn't get it to *be* fast a in any games. I'd bet a dollar that benchmark wise it couldn't beat a GF3 TI200 in the majority of benchmarks if it could even run them.

Why do people want it? Collectors item more than likely. Why do some people probably want it? 8x Full Screen RGAA. We are talking lines as smooth as a babies butt. Aliasing bugs the hell out of me and you get much better quality on the voodoo's. Of course you pay the penalty of no geometry support and a pretty limited pixel fill rate. But hey, no aliasing! 🙂

It would run fine with the most recent 3dfx reference drivers, which are DX8.x compliant, even if the card lacks some of the DX8 features. For a while there some former 3dfx employees were continuing to refine the drivers, but I think this project has ceased.

As for the benchmarks, I imagine you are 100% right.
