Or, drink a glass of water between "drinks".

I'm not sure about the water, but the "half a glass" thing will work. A hangover is just a mild form of alcohol withdrawal.

Water (water/electrolytes/salt) is probably the most vital thing to curing a hangover. Water, grease and time. Sleep works too...the body being "at ease." That's where the hummer comes in.

Why doesn't it make sense? Ibuprofen is for headaches. Alcohol deprives the brain of oxygen, which can cause headaches.

And water and glycogen, and actually blocks the body from being able to digest any until the alchohol is flushed from the system, which means time only will do.

To say it politely, that is one of the most uneducated things I have ever head. No it is not alchohol withdrawal, it is poisoning the body, and the headache and sickness is due to improper glycogen storage and matabolism in the liver, and dehydration, which were caused when ingesting the alchohol. Another drink just helps "numb" the pain and actually prolongs the effects. I guess it could work though as it is equivalent to a very short term process nicotine and a smoker.

Electrolytes and essential salts should be ingested after the alchohol is no longer in your system, as if it still is you are going to be urinating it all out, as one of alchohol's effects it blocking an inhibtor an your kidney's that is responsible for closing the "pours" that filter your urine to keep in essential life sustaining minerals etc.

EDIT: I swear I just discussed this in a thread JohnCU made like a month ago.

Ahh here it is.

Once again, I'm still not sure, but a quick google search on "hangover alcohol withdrawal" gets me a bunch of hits saying that alcohol withdrawal is a factor in a hangover.

This PDF link, though, says a hangover isn't well understood scientifically. For all we know, we BOTH could be right.

I've also heard the hangover = withdrawal bit from our health book (... okay, fine. ) and my bio teacher ( though she's been known to spew BS...).

I've never had a hang over, but I only drink expensive alcohol. Some people think that the impurities of cheap alcohol cause the effect...

Cheaper alcohol (read: wine) certainly has a higher tendency to produce hangovers, but I doubt a higher quality alcohol would do anything but reduce the likelyhood of getting a hangover, depending on how much you drink.

actually foolproof is before you sleep 1) puke out excess alcohol 2) force yourself to drink lots of water.

Just remember this: You may not believe it, but it's true.

As you get older, and become a more experienced drinker, you can drink more before becoming "drunk."

BUT (there's always a "but") it takes far LESS alcohol to cause a hangover the next day, AND the hangovers last longer (sometimes more than 24 hours!). You can't win. Trust me on this one.

Typically, I do not drink on work nights. But, if I do drink, I limit myself to two of whatever I'm drinking. Otherwise, the next morning is UGG-LEE.

A gallon is a little excessive, and if I recall correctly, drinking too much water at once is bad for your system. Plus, I hate having to piss that bad in the morning.

OMG... YOU GOT HITS FOR "Alcohol Withdrawl" WHEN YOU SEARCH... "Alcohol Withdrawl"... NO KIDDING?

F22Raptor is right... it's mostly a big factor of dehydration and losing a lot of minerals from your body. You know why you don't really get hangovers when you drink liquor? Because it gets you drunk faster and you don't piss out half the contents of your digestive system every 20 seconds.

Haha... no, although amusing.

If you are drinking all day long, then your body has already absorbed a crapload of alcohol, and you already have a hangover, you just don't know it.

Puking out the alcohol that hasn't been absorbed is just going to give a bad taste and a hangover when you wake up.

The ONLY foolproof is not drinking or not getting drunk.

There is no hangover cure if you got properly drunk the night before.

It's easy. Just before you go to bed, drink 1.5 glasses of water for every glass of liquor or whatever you had. You drank 5 beers? 7.5 glasses of water.

Sure you have to piss a lot in the morning, but since I've been doing that, I've never had a hangover.

That gives me a far worse hangover if i drink too much water ;) There's a sweet spot for me, where i wake up thirsty, but i don't get the massive nausea that too much water causes teh next day

I assume your not a very heavy drinker tho if you've never had a hangover ;)

LOL sure, the body has no way of keeping that water in because alchohol as turned off your ADH inhibitors. Sorry I am rasing the BS flag on this one.

Unless of course you have never gotten properly drunk.

Also, like I said before, too much water at once, especially in that state, is not good for the body. Odds are you'll just feel worse in the morning.

Last time I was hungover, and I learned this trick from the person who helped me cure my hangover, she's one of the SWAT nurses I work with, ironically she taught me how to do it when she was hungover and I had to start an IV on her in the back...

It basically involves, 2 tylenol, plus a banana bag(one gram of magnesium sulfate, 100 mg of thiamine, one mg of folate, and one amp of multivitamins in .9 normal saline) or Lactated Ringers(One liter of Lactated Ringer's Solution contains:130 mEq of sodium ion, 109 mEq of chloride ion, 28 mEq of lactate, 4 mEq of potassium ion, 3 mEq of calcium ion.)
IV solution with an 18 gauge IV started on an antecube vein open it full bore so the IV bag runs into you in about 10 minutes....10 minutes later you are feeling grand.

Sadly not everyone can do that :D

BTW there will probably never be a full cure for alchohol, and FFS drinking water (as argued in many other threads) does not do anything while drinking for a hang over."

water has always worked for me, and when i drink i drink heavily..12+ shots
