5. Client looks like it is using lots of CPU time: Graphics drivers must poll the GPU to see if it is done. This will look like a lot of CPU time being used, but nothing is really being done, so one can run other relatively CPU heavy code at the same time. However, we do not recommend running multiple FAH clients, as this can significantly slow down the GPU client.

So is the best configuration to dedicate one CPU core to the console GPU client and still run another instance of F@H on the console CPU client?

Is XP x64 supported (I'm afraid that it won't be). If someone has the GPU client working on an x64 system, I'd love to know, because I don't want to waste money on a new GPU yet if it won't be usable (might as well wait for R600 then).

64bit is not working as of right now. no word on when it will be working.

that is correct

I've completed a WU in about an hour but not sure if it means anything.
I'm also running Rosetta at the same time.

I don't hear my ATI 1900xtx fan running so I'm assuming it's not overheating.

an hour seems kinda short. I've read where some of the WUs should take around 13 hours. Did you check your F@hlog?

This is my log

[21:18:15] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[21:18:15] Entering M.D.
[21:18:21] Will resume from checkpoint file
[21:18:26] Completed 0
[21:18:26] Starting GUI Server
[21:18:27] Resuming from checkpoint
[21:18:27] Verified work/wudata_01.log
[21:18:27] Verified work/wudata_01.edr
[21:18:27] Verified work/wudata_01.trr
[21:18:27] Verified work/wudata_01.xtc
[22:04:37] Completed 1
[22:37:30] Completed 2
[22:46:00] Completed 3
[22:53:51] Completed 4

I've turned off Rosetta after "completed 2"

Does that mean it's 4 wu?

Neurodog: I think those might be check points. i guess give it an hour or so and see how the log looks then.

Most 13 hour WUs on normal cpu folding are like only 100pts...So what points are being given for 13hr wus using this 20-40x speed up gpu clients???

Are they giving points for these right now???? Have they talked about points for these? Seems if they weighted accordingly they will be the frekkin roof and ppl are going to take off.....

AFAIK, there is a bonus for the GPU WUs. Whether or not this will continue after the beta is over I don't think anyone knows.

Check the FAQ linked up above, but I believe it was 440 pts.

Any idea what program works with the new 6.10 drivers to overclock the GPU so F@H runs off an overclocked GPU? As it stands it uses the 2D clocks.

I manually loaded my overclocked settings with ATI Tool. If it's going to run overclocked 24/7 why not just set it to automatically apply your overclock on boot?

there's suppose to be a pretty good gain when OCing above these wimpy 2D clocks they're running at right now.

The benchmarked client, x1900xt, is now suppose to fold at 440 points per day (PPD) or more...

The client seems to bounce around CPU cores a lot doing its checking, which slows down system response time. I locked the client to 1 CPU core on my X2, and now it's not a problem.

And it looks like the 6.10 drivers are broken. Use 6.5 if you want this to work correctly.

Edit: Running the client in service mode is also broken

this is not "neccessarily" true but people should use the 6.5s for now. some people have gotten the 6.10s to work but the Pande group has issed a statement saying that the 6.5s should be used until a bug causing the issue can be fixed.

Well, my X1900XT will be here thurs. Going into a X2 3800, which I may put back to stock, to insure stability. Running 2370 now.

this is not neccessarily true. many people have had the 6.10 drivers work great for them but others like you have not. According to the Pande group, only the 6.5 and 6.10s should work with any efficiency.
From mhouston(of the Pande Group): Okay, there are compounding issues here. The 6.10 drivers are failing on some WUs, and the WU's based off of those will get corrupted as well. We are working on this. For now, we recommend the 6.5 drivers until we can get a work around.

Vijay says something similar in another thread. The 6.10's are broken.

you replied just as i read Vijay's statement and modified my post 😉 ... though people still are using the 6.10s with success, i wouldn't recommend it.

How many frames(I'm assuming that's what these ## Completed messages are) are in a work unit, anyhow?

yea same question as virge and also is the gpu suppose to get hot at all?? cause it's reporting no change whatsoever in temp. don't know it this is going right. ?_?

If your GPU isn't getting hot, you're doing something wrong. Mine is going to about 90c and 150MB of VRAM are in use when the client is running correctly.

100 "frames"

the card should be decently warm. check to make sure you're not getting a bunch of early end units or that it crashed. flush your F@H GPU dir and install 6.5 drivers if having a problem. you may need to rush drivercleaner. If you force3d your temps will definatley rise 🙂 read OP for info. You'll get a ton better performance.

Added Maximizing Performance, Overclocking, Cooling, Card Price Guide, and DriverCleaner...

whoa. That's toasty. :Q
