Sounds rather like a short story Stephen King wrote a few decades ago (under his pen name, Richard Bachman). The Mist.

Well, at least there's still 'They Live' to put Carpenter in a good light... The one-liners and the obligatory 10-minute unneccesary fight scene make that a classic in it's own right.

Carpenter's been known to kinda bow out of his integrity to get a paycheck (ahem, Halloween 3 WITHOUT Michael Myers, anything in the last decade).

Oh well, I guess to quote Rowdy Roddy Piper: "Life's a bitch, and she's back in heat".

Because the studio did not allow the critics to see it ahead of time. Typically, this is a very bad sign.

1. Movie sucks goat nads.
2. Movie's producers realize that movie sucks goat nads.
3. Movie's producers prevent advance press screenings, ensuring no early bad reviews.

Actually I found a very positive review:

This has got to be the best film ever made. I preview I attended people gave it a standing ovation! And it was only halfway through the movie. They were actually standing and walking out, but still!

Oh, man, did this scare the hell out of me. Now I can't even take a shower because I am afraid of the bathroom fogging up. This is the second movie that has made me afraid of taking a shower! The first one, of course, being Glenn Close's nude bathing scene in The Big Chill.

Tom Welling turns in a performance worthy of Brando. He is so in the moment when acting opposite the title character. He blows the fog away. I can't believe he's not going to be in Superman Lives. He would've made a perfect Lois Lane with his effeminate features.

Let's see, who else didn't suck? Oh, yeah, Rupert Wainright! It's was worth the seven year wait since Stigmata.

My favorite line has to be the one delivered with utterly believable incredulity by Tom Welling: "Get the fog outta here!"

In conclusion, The Fog is the movie event of the year. It probably won't outgross 'Titanic,' but you never know.

Well, looks like the no advance screening ploy worked. Only 8% at RottenTomatoes.com yet it was the #1 movie for the weekend.....just barely beating out Wallace & Gromit.

Saw it today. Decent flick, C+. If the ending had been better it could have been a solid B movie.
