Soil is porous, especially if it's mostly peat. Maybe there are some air channels within the pot, too? Who knows, it sounds like part of it is bs or simply won't work as effectively as they make it sound.

I'm more curious as to how they are detecting toxins:

Clairy alerts you of the toxin levels of the room which it’s in, as well as the temperature and humidity levels

You can see in the photos of manufacturing the pots, there is a smaller inner pot that has divots I imagine will become holes that sits inside the larger pot with the fan.

I wonder why the promoters didn't provide plant respiration rates to demonstrate the throughput of their vapor phase phytoremediation device? They also neglect to discuss airborne mold levels with and without their device.

Edit: The study linked to shows the initial effectiveness of potting soil to remove pollutants but does not show how the plants play any role in pollution removal. Nor does the study show the long term capacity of the potting soil to continue to remove pollutants from the air.

Not only that what happens to the poor plant that has to absorb all this crap, it's getting an un-natural amount of airflow so it will probably croak in 6 months.

Unreal. Over 178 grand?! Are you kidding me?! I'd like to see what Shark Tank thinks of this.

It's like people were born fucking stupid.

I just found a way to raise money for my cousin with cancer! Awesome!

Question: Will these idiots know you didn't spend the money on my BLT project? :D

Interesting concept although I find the design extremely ugly.
In the pictures, the pot stands out like a sore thumb, doesn't fit with anything. Design my ass. It looks like something a redneck concocted out of some trash, IMHO.

** As for the "soil" used, I didn't see any specifics. It could be anything, you can make a soil mix very airy, eg. by adding perlite or peat...even some styrofoam pebbles would work.

You're first clue was this was a bull shit project.... Don't try to understand it and make it fit in that Feng shui mind set. It won't. LOL!
