And, credit card companies have never had to issue replacement cards with new numbers to people, because no one ever got their numbers before.

(edit: how many millions of computers have various spyware programs on them? Too many people are dumb enough to keep an obviously titled file with their voting numbers in it.)

Instead, how about something akin to a fingerprint scanner?

Even if the Fed rolled out National ID along with specific voting hardware that'd be a massive improvement. Situations like FL make me wonder why someone hasn't lost it yet and just opened up at one of these places. Most places have schools. Most schools have many PC's.

So make Fed elections a national holiday, make state elections a state holiday, and have the Fed deliver emcrypted USB bootable drives that each state is responsible for returning for each election. Take computers from school for day, boot off bootable USB stick, no risk of virii. When done with election, USB sticks go back to Fed for storage/destruction.

This can be done, there just is a lack of will to do it.
