In about 2.5 weeks the wifey and I are going to fly to Ft. Lauderdale and make our way down the coast with Key West as our final destination. We've spent some time in the Keys about 3 years ago, and it seemed like we had a hard time finding good places to eat. Most places were really crappy-looking local places that scared us away. We would be willing to eat at that type of place if we are given good recommendations.

Any suggestions?

My brother-in-law has lived in Key West for about 15 years so we go there a few times a year. There are quite a few places revered by the locals that serve good fare and have reasonable prices. Some of the regular tourist destinations serve some great food too. Truthfully though, Key West is so small that there are really no places that only the locals know about. There's nowhere to hide there.

For reasonable prices (and "reasonable" is relative in KW):

Pepe's Cafe & Steakhouse

Rusty Anchor (Seafood. You'll see it on the left just before you get into Key West)

El Siboney (Spanish)

La Trattoria (Italian)

Pricier Places with great food for a special dinner:

A&B Lobsterhouse

The Pier House

Square One
