One of my son's 2 Goldfish just died. :(

You see my son is 3 1/2 years old and had 2 goldfish in his room.
Now he has one. I haven't told him yet....

What should I tell him????

The truth

or should I just go out and get another goldfish tomorrow????

:(

What would you do???

I would chuck the dead fish down the garbage disposal and tell the kid the one of his fish died. I would then take him to the pet store to buy him another fish.

Why is this so difficult? The kid is not going to go into convulsions because a damn fish died. He/she will only think it is a big deal if you make it a big deal.

Get another one. Give him a couple more innocent years before the whole 'death is a part of life' concept.

Leave this fish floating in there and tell him that if he doesn't take better care of his pets he's never going to be allowed to get a puppy.

well when my son was young and one of his goldfish died it took him about a week to notice! hehe Actually I would tell your son. That age is young to learn about certain things in life but I would take this oppurtunity to start and explain it to your young son. Good luck.

That's easy to understand from an adult point of view, but teaching young, impressionable kids that life has no value is probably not a good idea.

Take out the dead fish and DO NOT BUY HIM ANOTHE FISH.

I'm guessing its some little gold fish bowl? Their just gonna die again. Thats not a proper habitat for a gold fish.

I think it would be better to start teaching about responsibility and how to take care of things. He can learn about some basic fish care stuff. Its never too early to start.

go to www.aquariacentral.com and their forums for more help on the proper way to take care of fish.

If this was a proper tank for 2 goldfish I completely apologize. But I would still try to teach him how to take care of them properly, and maybe just take him to the store to get a new one.

I'd do this.

You don't know how he will really react but I wouldn't want to take the chance. Hes only 3 1/2 years old, give him some time.

when i first read this thread i scrolled down to the bottom. i thought you were suggesting you tell the fish the truth and see what he wanted to do. =)

i say take him to the store to buy another fish ... tell him the other fish went away? like you said, kids are impressionable. you're on the right track. =)

Two gallons isn't really a proper enclosure for even one goldfish.
