the first part of back to the future 2 makes no sense (how can you travel into the future?)

the first issue seems like it can be resolved. once teenage marty (tm) leaves 1985 to go into the future, isn't he removed from the normal timeline and therefore doesn't exist in the future? wouldn't tm just "disappear?" i can see this being ok if tm eventually comes back to 1985 and lives the rest of his life like normal, creating the impression that he's really only been gone for like a second (or not at all if he likes, he can come back the instant he leaves). but this leads us to a second problem...

tm goes into the future. adult marty (am) doesn't know he's there. if am is just tm after 30 years, wouldn't he remember that he went into the future 30 years ago? why all the hiding? why can't am help tm? why can't am help his own son? i haven't seen bttf 2 in some time, but i think i have it straight. it just doesn't make sense to me... 😕

Cuz First Doc Brown goes back, and he leaves the time machine in a cave that Marty eventually finds, WAYYY after Doc Brown is dead. Marty then goes back in the same machine, make sense? 😀

So there are two time machines in the old west, the one Doc went back in, and the one Marty went back in. They needed to leave Doc's in storage so Marty would get it in the future and take it back, but tell me why they couldn't syphon out what gas that was surely left in that one to get Marty's going again?

you answered the first one on your own. 😉

and the second, you have to remember that the whole premise of these movies is that the future (or past) starts one way and then is changed, as opposed to always being the way it was after it got fixed (like in bill and ted). you're looking at the marty that didn't get his future changed, that's why he doesn't remember changing it. after young marty changes his future, then am would remember it.

edit: bill and ted is different, because as soon as the guys decide to change something, it's changed. like in the end of the second one where they get into the "after i shoot you, i'm going to go back and give myself a gun so i can shoot you" thing, and then they have guns.

edit 2: except i think it was the evil guy who got the gun, but yeah.
