Been to Atlanta.
Visited Family in Atlanta for a couple of days.
Been to Atlanta for work.
Only things that really stuck out was that everyone seemed to drive around on worn tires, the "Brown Hood rats" that Mr. 40 year old Virgin mentioned were friendly. Maybe instead of judging people on their appearance maybe you should try talking to people.
I'd have to say everyone walked way too slow. Didn't run into any "Rednecks" but there were plenty of obese white people on scooters.
Took some adjusting to strangers saying hello.
You can always spot the visitors from Atlanta up in NYC. That's stupid painfully slow duck walk.
That's why you people are so damn fat as soon you hit your late 20's. Pick up the damn pace.
Except the runners at Stone Mountain. If I lived there I'd probably go there to run every weekend up that sucker.

However, I would NEVER move to Georgia or anywhere else in the south. My relatives learned that the hard way and have since moved back to NY.
If the average walking pace on a sidewalk is under 4mph, you and your entire state is dead to me.

That and I don't care about Football or Jesus and being asked what branch of the military I'm in or served in.
I simply would not be accepted.

Long story short, I've family in Atlanta.

I execute judgment on hard acts of immorality, usually deception and no race or ethnicity is above it. Polite, casual conversation alone obviously results in no transgression. I would ask them to defend claiming Southern States are less racist which based on minor details like history and politics might be a wee bit difficult to prove, but then I would be the one straying into P&N territory.

I've actually dealt with drug dealers and sex offenders. Second chances are not worth giving to the latter especially and the former are polite piece of shit who engage in bad faith everywhere. Besides your beloved city has some cracks in its sub-municipalities. Those rich blacks and whites in Buckhead are considering seceding from the city of Atlanta itself, thus potentially cutting off a major income stream.

You would be fine. Definitely different culture than Berkeley, CA, but that's a good thing. The world would be a boring place if everywhere was the same.

People need to travel and see the world. See different places, experience different cultures. Meet new people. World is an amazing place. It's too bad most people don't get to see and experience our beautiful world beyond the small circle where they live. New experiences offer new perspectives and will change how you view the world and your life. You only have one short life. See and experience much of this amazing world as you can before you die. Experiences are what matter. Not money. Not material things.

To get back on topic, I hope the OP is able to figure things out and realize that peace and freedom are more important than money in the short term. Money comes and goes, but in order to rebuild you have to avoid things that could lead down a path of long term consequences that will be hard to overcome - like a criminal record.

There are tons of stories of bad thoughts leading to bad actions. Realize there is a correlation. Refocus on getting out not getting deeper.
