The film 'Gladiator' needs a sequel apparently

I propose making it a short: Lucius as a child wants to be a gladiator like Maximus when he grows up. He then grew up and realised that this would be a fucking insane way to throw his life away, especially given his options due to his wealth/heritage/education.

Maybe someone ought to send him to a vocational guidance counsellor?

This has been known for over 10 years now, there was going to be time travel and all sorts of nonsense involved just so Russell Crowe could reprise his role as Maximus. Thankfully most of that sci-fi stuff is gone but it is still not going to come close to how good Gladiator is.

Gladiator is one of my favorite movies...I'm always VERY hesitant about sequels. Please don't ruin a good thing Hollywood!

Gladiator was pretty standard Ridley Scott Oscar bait, good movie but nothing there for a sequel.

Why even waste energy on trying to tie it into Gladiator when Roman era sword and board movies are basically a dime a dozen. Just call it something else and keep going.

I think Gladiator would have been a better movie without Maximus. The character was not particularly interesting even though he was the center of the story.

I rewatched this yesterday after hearing about the sequel. I don't have much hope for the sequel but at least it's the same director and has some of the original cast.

The original holds up great though, still an amazing movie and the 4k hdr version looked really good imo.

Wow I did not want to believe it. Next November is the release date.

So Maximus remains dead (this isn't fantasy genre) and no Russell Crowe. I guess

Gladiator 2 is an upcoming epic historical drama directed by Ridley Scott. Serving as a sequel to Gladiator (2000), the film was written by David Scarpa, and stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Derek Jacobi, the last three reprising their roles. It will be produced by Scott Free Productions for Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures.

Looks like it will be following Lucius and involve a time jump. In typical Scott style, it will be losely based on actual history. Looks like we're going to get Caracallus as the new Commodus in the movie and Geta will fill in for Aurellius (He was killed by his brother Caracallus).

Lo and behold, in history, Caracallus was killed by a Roman Soldier who was sick of his shit. Guess we know exactly how this is going to go down...

Well if he is truly making a standalone movie, of the romans but in a different era and also with those loose historical ties, and just using the goddamn title as a typical blockbuster sequel marketing schtick, it could actually be good. Could is the operative word.
