how in the hell could the government allow the dessimation of aureal? maybe i dont know the entire story, but as i understand it, aureal was doing VERY good.

then all of a sudden CL starts throwing lawsuits at Aureal. aureal is about to go bankrupt due ot legal fees and a bidding war ensues for the buying of aureal between Guillemot and Creative Labs.

CL wins the highest bid, and in order for Aureal to get the money, they must drop their legal suit against CL. they do, and CL runs the compan into the ground.

HOW THE HELL CAN THEY DO THAT?!?!?! isnt that considered dirty business tactics, andi thought it was illegal?

I don't know exactly what happened, but I heard it is illegal for someone to sue so much money that it would put a company out of business. This is exactly the argument used by the tobacco companies in the Florida suit; they said that the amount they wanted would put them out of business. So there probably were other factors involved in Aureal's demise.

Aureal did not lose the Creative suit, but the legal fees they ran up were too high for the company to pay, so they went bankrupt. nVidia hired a lot of the engineers, though, and is almost definately developing its own sound card. I'm sure that once it's released Creative will be in deep sh!t because nVidia won't be too willing sell their graphics chips to a company that is a competitor in another market. They'll have almost no income from their graphics series and will also have shrinking profits from their sound cards due to a new, powerful competitor.

DIE CREATIVE!

The coolest part is that Nvidia is developing it's own athlon chipset that will have Geforce 2 MX on the die. If they build a totally integrated solution with sound and everything on it, they could really take a large chunk of the OEM market.

nVidia's GONNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! RUNN!!!

hehe...=)

I could see nVidia becoming a large hardware monopoly...ala Microsoft...except only for hardware. I mean they are making graphics cards, soon sound cards and mobo chipsets. They are also doing integrated solutions for set top boxes. Soon they'll be making joysticks, modems, speakers, etc...maybe even car audio eqiupment.

Goddamn why did I just spend $110 to buy a nVidia Geforce 2 MX last night? Oh well, I needed it anyway.

The only difference is that their sh!t will work and won't consistantly crash or fsck up, and will be quality stuff.
