I eat so much fresh fruits and vegatables, they can feel free to ship me boxes of anything. If I can't use it, it will get composted anyways :)

too true also today my deplorable side is saying fuck these farmers. They got a record breaking aid package just a few months ago now they want another?

An aid package that will never be expected to be paid back, but 'Murica be damned if the socialism they enjoy will be enjoyed by any city slickers wanting universal healthcare.

edit: And the obvious irony is they elected a snake oil salesman.

Why are they any more special than others? You think farmers have it bad? Check out the trade show/live events industry they got annihilated.

Maybe because farmers provide food products to the population to survive and the other provides entertainment?

Farmers would have been significantly negatively impacted by COVID-19 regardless of who was president. It’s just worse under Trump’s mismanagement. I believe this is OP’s point.

The fact is we need farms. It is shortsighted in the extreme to be saying 'fuck the farmers'.
The thing to remember is that we still have to eat. If we want to eat someone has to grow it. We let the farms fail and next year we starve.
Growing things takes time, they have to plan ahead on what to grow, and how much. Get it wrong and it can be devastating to their business.
COVID has changed the entire food demand graph. Home cooks simply use different ingredients in different amounts than a restaurant. A stick of butter lasts more than a week in my house, but in a restaurant they might use that much butter per plate.

Fucking around with trade deals with China for the last 3 years hasn't helped one bit.

No it has not, and I want to make sure Trump pays a political price for his assholery too, but not so much I am willing to starve next February so that I can give him his what-for this November.

So instead of struggling farmers are going to quit their work and starve instead? Nope they get to eat the shit sandwich they doomed us to also.

Strange thing is Trump has the right idea regard China & Trade. He simply has no plan, is too low energy to make a plan and spent zero energy preparing people for what would happen.

It costs a lot to be able to keep a farm functional. Each individual farmer/company is going to make a decision on what is best for his farm. Individually that might not mean much, but if too many individuals perceives that it is too risky to plant food crops next season, then alfalfa soup might be the hot food trend next year.
This is a real concern. And that is on top of that a large percentage of them could simply go bankrupt and not be able to afford to plant next year, or harvest if they did.
Running a farm takes money, if you don't have it you don't grow food.

I agree, we need to do something about China. Trump just has no idea what. Trump apparently believes all the GOP style American Exceptionalism that claims that if we just stop buying from China they will come crawling back to us and give us anything to let them sell to us again.

It completely ignores the fact that we are addicted to the stuff they are selling. The Drug Dealer is not afraid of that the crack addict will boycott his goods.
