Nice thread to have. Bastard. Do you know how much time I wasted on Fantastic Contraption?

Here we go again!
Yeah, I dodged the bullet and only grew out a week's worth of beard playing that one. MUST RESIST LINK!

Uggh, took me forever to figure out level 3. I thought I was trying to get that dumb ball in the center. (I succeeded many times.) Ohhhhh, get the rectangle in the center...

Yeah, I was trying to get the orange ball to move. Lifting the rectangle is much easier. :p

Marble seems to be a pain in the ass.

I did a magnets only on the beat the ramp level (whatever it was called, where the ramp moves to the left faster than a wheel can move to the right. Magnet explosion & my thing was propelled across the screen. Had to rearrange magnets twice before it was also aligned with the goal box.

Yeah, Marble was a pita. I tried to take advantage of a "flaw" in the program. When a chain snaps tight, it often goes through the solid blocks partially. Sometimes it snaps. I tried 100 different configurations (at least). Sometimes the chain would snap, sometimes the object would end up about 95% of the way into the goal (which is why I didn't give up.)

Finally got frustrated & erased everything. Then, a much simpler solution hit me right off the bat. 3 tries and it was fine tuned. I could do it again in 3 or 4 tries any time.

Substitution was a bitch. I successfully got the one on the top over to the target on the left, but the one underneath dropped. It was then that I figured out, "ohhhh, both of them have to be in one goal or the other. Pretty simple design to defeat that - three wheels, magnets as maces. Pounded the top ball backwards, and while the device stumbled toward the right, held the under one in the goal just long enough.

Bombard - a minute to figure out what to do, 20 minutes fine tuning it until it worked perfectly. You don't know how frustrating it is to make a wedge to hold the block in place, have that wedge slip loose at just the right moment, then have that wedge block the block from the goal by a hair. AGGGHHH! Success finally was mine. Tip: put a magnet in the center of the block. It prevents magnets from keeping your wedge from folding up.

Woot! and I've completed them all. Time for challenges (on Sunday) - 4 1/2 hours til 170 bales of hay will be driven from the field to the barn. Then toss into loft and stack. Then graduation parties.

Been going through the levels, trying to do them either with nothing but magnets, else with magnets and the blue connectors. Got Marble on the first try.
