The other day, i was ripping cd's when my digidoc started beeping. I thought nothing of it because i have the alarm set @ 50 C and i thought that because i was ripping it was getting hot (although looking at it now, i should have realized something was up right away because it never gets that hot, even when i work it hard). I continued to rip cd's for about another 45 minutes before deciding to check things out. I am glad i did because my cpu fan stopped working. (the beeping was my fan monitor, not my temp monitor, i need to pay attention) I was impressed that my cpu temp never got above 60c, i guess this time it payed to have a computer that is as loud as a 747. I have an addtronics w8500 case with 3 92mm and 1 80mm fans bringing air in and 4 80mm in the back and 1 92mm up by the drives exhausting, and the psu fan exausting. I just posted this because of how impressed i was (and thankful that i did not do any damage) that my system can run without a cpu fan.

tell me about it, i was shocked to say the least.

I would like to note though, the actual temps of my cpu might have been a little higher than 60 C because my digidoc it not perfectly accurate, i give it a 5-8 degree margin of error, but even at 65 - 68 that is still within operable temp range.

My rig did something similar. Started up my machine, turned my ftp server on...left to make a sandwich and made some phone calls. About an hour later, came back to hear all kinds of beeps and alerts. Saw that my temps were 56-62...freaked out thinking a capacitor or something blew. CPU fan on my 8045 didn't initialize for some reason. Rebooted and everything began working again at 38. It pays to have an antec 10X0 with.. 120mm top exhaust, 120mm side blower, 2 80mm hard drive fans, 3 80mm case fans, enermax dual fan psu, and a slot cooler. thank god for SVC!

Now to actively cool my monitor...

for the last two weeks, on my spare computer which is on for a few hours a day. I've heard this beeping noise from the case. 1st I thought it was just because it had a crappy PS that was dying or something.

today I opened it, and low and behold...one of the wires on the slot-A CPU cooler got caught on the fan blades and the fan wasn't spinning!

lucky the Slot-A Athlon 800mhz was already naked. if it was in its casing it surely would have fried......

count your blessings!
