The fall of the west will come in the hands of a major catastrophe...

I find it disturbing that so many people point to those in the middle east (and other places worse off than us) about how they act during times of crisis and panic and imagine them as savages while we are so civilized and modern.

As soon as we suffer damage, all of a sudden, people are crazed lunitics! Looting, violence, shooting at military...

It's so sad to see that in a time of crisis our entire way of life will fall to pieces. This happens because of how we've built the western world. Everyone for themself, "Its not my fault", "it's not my responsibility"...

so sad...

It's a disgusting display shown by certaing demographics. Not a representation as people as a whole.

I can guarantee that if something like that happened in the smaller communities in the rural Midwest you would see nothing like that.

Not everyone is like that.

I completely agree with that. I'm actually learning about this stuff in criminology right now. In smaller communities, people depend on each other. In the cities, it's everyone for themselves.

I grew up in a community of 1800 people.

Then moved to one of 60,000 people.

Then one of 120,000 people.

Then one with a metro area of over 3.5 million.

And then one with a metro area of around 500,000.

I was absolutely miserable in the big city. You were treated as a criminal and had to earn your trust. In smaller communities people will almost always automatically open up to you until you take away that trust.

It's just a very different mentality.

Do you guys remember back (was it the early 90's?) when the Mississippi flooded all up and down its run and entire cities we put under water? Not one city.. CITIES. I don't remember looting being as much of a problem then and I know I don't remember anyone shooting at cops or national guardsmen.

We've seen situations like this before. The behavior on display this time is a new one for me though.

I agree with this...and it pisses me off.

Hello In Cold Blood, those kidnapping/murders in that French-named Idaho town, etc., etc. Trusting everyone is not exactly a GREAT idea.

Can you imagine if this happened in Detroit? It'd be like WW3. Well, at least Ford Field wasn't falling apart BEFORE a natural disaster (I'm looking at you, Superdome).

Remember also that the media is ALWAYS going to report the lowest common denominator when it comes to stuff like this. The media is to blame. I would feel safe right now going down there to help people. Just because a few hundred (if even that many) are asshats doesn't mean that the million+ people down there are all acting the same way. These are some ghetto ass lowlifes with nothing better to do than try and establish themselves as someone important through fear and ignorance.

And before anyone says it, white people can be ghetto ass lowlifes just like anyone else. I shouldn't have to say that, but some people are crybabies like that.
