The face that launched a thousand ships

I just saw a small footage of "Troy" on Entertainment Tonight. I don't mind about Brad Pitt playing Achilles. There was no mentioned, however, who would play Hector or Helen. With Hector being one of my favorite fictional character of all time, the performance of his character would make or break the movie for me. Helen, of course, being the most beautiful woman in the world, the face that launched a thousand ships, would also be hard to cast.

I don't expect "Troy" to cover everything in the book (The Iliad). That would be an impossible task. Too many characters to develop. I would imagine all "devine interventions" would be removed also. Forget about naming the princes and their family for each fleet. I do hope the movie to be somewhat decent. The TV mini series "Helen of Troy" was very disappointing. Their choice for the cast of Helen was decent but Achilles and Hector were not adequately chosen. Hector was given the backseat while his brother Paris got the spotlight. I hope Troy would be truer to the book.

Is anyone even remotely excited to see "Troy"? I don't know how many people here who have actually read The Iliad or are into Greek and Roman Mythologies.

I love the Iliad (really love Shakespeare's Troilus & Cressida), but am not excited about the film at all. Hollywood is good enough at screwing up their own epics, let alone someone elses. :)

Looks good, if only for the battles. I hope Hector is a major character. The Iliad was about Achilles AND Hector.

I could see Orlando Bloom as Paris, the pretty boy archer (as you call him). But Erica Bana as Hector? Sean Bean as Odysseus? OMG. I have to wait and see. Diomedes and Aeneus didn't seem to make the list.

Man, have you seen Eric Bana? He got fvcking BIG. Looks pretty good in his role, but it's weird seeing him like that since he's so easy going in real life, and we haven't seen him in many movies yet. Orlando Bloom's a good actor, so he should do the part well...as for Kruger, I can't seem to remember what she's been in, so she better be pretty damn hot. :)

orlando bloom stinks. he cant play anyone of any emotional substance. he constantly looks confused at the world around him.

i heard wolfgang peterson was directing this... if thats true, i imagine that it would turn out pretty well.

DAS BOOT!
