Forwarded to a friend abroad and he replied: Who the %@#&# is Amelia Earhart? I think she's known only in the US, and that thanks to some Discovery Channel documentaries. If you like these stories, read Vol de Nuit de Saint-Exupery. Very cool book.

According to Star Trek, Cpt Janeway meets Amelia Earhart and other famous people from history who were captured by aliens and kept alive.


PS. She was the first woman to make a solo transatlantic flight. She vanished while trying to make an around the world flight after she had flown 2/3 of the way around.

Also there is a school of thought that she was captured and killed by the Japanese. (This all took place about the same time they were building up military strength in the Pacific) Also that her flight WAS intended (to some extent) as a spy mission.
