#22 Texas A&M at #5 Texas

If Texas wins, they go to a BCS bowl game. If A&M wins, Texas gets booted from the BCS ranks which will make Utah and Boise State move up the rankings. Boise State could then bump out a higher ranked team, California, from the BCS perhaps going to the Rose bowl instead of them.

A loss by texas would force the BCS to recognize two non-BCS teams as rightful BCS bowl teams.

Uhm, go Aggies!!!!
 😀

EDIT: Of course, Boise State has to win and win convincingly against Nevada this Saturday as well.

it would be so cool to see Utah and Boise State to go to BCS bowls. It would suck royally for the Cal Bears though.

you're wrong. we don't get a bcs game whether we win or not. no matter what utah get a bowl game ahead of us.

I was reminded of this game today because ESPN Classics is showing the Texas vs. Texas A&M game from 2003.

Uh, who says Texas will go to a BCS bowl game if they win?

No? But they are ranked 5th in the BCS right now. The don't get the championship but they get one of the other ones, right?

EDIT: I stand corrected. I pulled this from the sportingnews.com site:
Texas (9-1): Unless you're a ?Horn hater, it's hard not to feel a little bad for Texas. In most any other year, a 10-1 finish would have equaled an at-large BCS bowl game, but 2004 has been unlike any other year. Barring a Southern Miss upset of Cal, the Bears and Cinderella Utah appear to have put those two at-large spots in a vice grip. All that won't stop the ?Horns from being geeked for Aggie Week, the next biggest thing to an early October trip to Dallas.
Up Next: Texas A&M (Fri.)

Fox Sports breakdown of the teams that are bowl eligible.
Looks like it sucks for everybody except for those BCS teams who won their respective conferences.

I think what will happen is that Texas will drop if they lose to the #6/#7/#8 border in a near tie with Georgia and Miami. Boise St will likely drop to #9. But Texas could drop enough to be left with #6/#7 Georgia/Miami, #8 Boise St., and #9 Texas.

Either way, I think Boise St will likely be out of the picture. Nevada will hurt them while Geogia and Miami who are just behind Boise St will be helped with good opponents.

I always thought the BCS was kind of screwed up, but if you are correct this takes it to a whole new level.

it doesn't matter if we win or lose this game. we will be going to the cotton bowl because even a win would leave us higher than a&m and give us that spot in the game.

you are ONLY guaranteed a bcs game if you are top 3 in a major conference. mid major schools are guaranteed if they are in top 6. this system is fcking bullsht.

and i hope ou ends up #3 just so they can absolutely crush utah.

Right. Why can't it be the top 8 go to the top 4 bowl games? Seems simple doesn't it. But no, some schools have an arbitrary advantage.

I don't think you should be upset at Utah, you should be upset at teams like BC and Michigan. Anyway, all Texas had to do was take care of business against Oklahoma and they'd be in it...it's nobodies fault but their own. BCS teams don't have to finish top 3, they just have to win their conference of finish top 4, so they always control their own destiny.

look it up. you are GUARANTEED a bowl if you are top 3. everyone knows if you are in a bcs conference and win your conference you get the bid. and when did i ever say i was upset with utah? i'm more mad at an a&m team that went in and blew the game off like it would be an easy win. or maybe i should blame wisconsin because they shouldn't run the table. let's blame cal for not upsetting usc.

now on a more serious note, don't put words in my mouth. i never said it was anyone else's fault. i said the system was crap, and most would agree with that. and nice touch saying we needed to beat ou. as if we don't know that? as if we don't know they have had our number for the past 5 years? lol.

The bowls and the conferences will probably never go in for that since that could potentially reduce their payouts in off years. Realistically, what I'd like to see is an optional title game in years where there is still some question as to who the best really is after all the bowls have been played. This option wouldn't have been necessary for the 2002 season, for example, but last year (and probably this year too) just screamed for one more game.

so why click a thread about the football game and THEN go on to post a response?

Um, because there was nothing in the title to lead one to believe this a thread about a football game? Since I read it I felt that I had to respond...just to torture you bastages for wasting my time!!! 😛

Yeah I had a feeling the sips had this one... if it was in CS we had a real shot to win and I fully expect us to beat you next year (losing cbong is really going to hurt you guys)

The only chance we had this year was to force 2 or 3 turnovers.... and that didnt happen. (the one was pretty crazy though)

i love how you joke about cedric being a pothead when reggie mcneal smokes just as much, if not more😉
