Go there on Black Friday. In fact, wait in line early for one of their crazy deals. You'll soon find out.
Yeah, but isn't pretty much everyone bad on Black Friday?

What's the deal with online pickup - I've never tried it. Is it a huge pain in the ass?

As for BF....I wrote a short story on it from two years ago. Basically, I went there for a hot deal on a video card, was third in line, and didn't get one of the "minimum 10" cards. I didn't see any, but apparently, rumor has it, they had hid the cards at the end of some isle by home audio instead of putting them on the shelves with the other video cards. Make sense to you? Me neither.

I've done in-store pickup three times and EVERY time it has been a half hour ordeal.

I ordered a stick of memory that was on sale at night and got the confirmation the next morning that my order was ready. You would THINK that such an email would mean somebody had grabbed a stick of memory and put in behind the CS desk. Nope. I get there. After searching for my order for 10 minutes and asking for my credit card twice paging a manager once and conferring with a fewllow CSR, she tells me they don't have any. I knew they'd sell out which is why I ordered online. I ask for two smaller sticks as a replacement and she needed to talk to the manager again who was who knows where. Can't do that. This was your screw up why am I being penalized for it? Let me go check again......okay we found one.

I ordered XP Home Upgrade last week because it was advertised online and in the paper as having a $60 GC. Get the confirmation. Again, get there, after a ten minute search for the order and multiple conferences with associates I see some dude walk over to the software aisle and pick up a copy and bring it over....except it was XP Pro.....so he goes back and gets Home. What's this? The CSR doesn't get prompted for the $60 GC. She confirms it is advertised online. Calls for a manager. 5 minutes later the manager is trying to decipher what the gift card actually applies to and tells me I need XP to upgrade to XP Home because it's upgrade software. She also thinks that the gift card is only for software that goes with XP. The CSR explains that purchasing the exact same copy in-store brings up a prompt for the gift card...the manager is still incredulous. The solution......cancel your order online, sir, and come back and buy it in the store....it's always a good idea to just buy it at the store, she informs me. I told them to cancel it and ring the copy up right there cause I wasn't putting another ounce of effort into this.

One experience:
  • Buy DVD player
  • After 50 days, player breaks
  • Take to service, which sends it out
  • Six weeks later, call to ask WTF it is?
  • Pick up at store 3 days later
  • Take home, plug in, still same as when it went in!
  • Return to store, ask for replacement
  • They say, no can do, because I didn't buy their wondrous service plan. Only option is to send back for service
  • I say, you already had it for six weeks, and it's still broke!
  • They shrug, too bad.
  • I had to handle the "replacement" myself!
  • FVCK THEM!
If you do buy their damn replacement crap, it's voided after one return! MAGGOTS! :|

WINNER!!!!

I have had equally good and bad experiences at both Best Buy and Circuit City. I've had even worse experiences at locally owned AV/electronic shops.

BB has become a target just as Walmart, MS, AOL and the US itself has become.

For some reason, anytime something becomes popular or #1, it becomes a popular target. It also becomes fodder for those who are too cool to like anything popular.
I disagree. My personal experiences at Best Buy have been outrageous. Extremely poor customer service, being treated like a criminal trying to exchange a defective item, 9+ month wait and having to file a BBB complaint to get a $20 mail-in rebate fulfilled, going to the store to find that sales items are always OOS, and most importantly their prices are not competitive.

I don't hate BB for the bullsh!t reasons you give, I hate them because they have personally insulted and mistreated me just about every single fscking time I have shopped there. I have extremely low tolerance for companies whose standard customer service policy is lies and insults, and I will never shop there again.

True. I once needed an SATA cable and checked Best Buy.......$20. I didn't buy it, obviously, and got one from SVC or some place for .79. If I want a new release DVD, Target is cheaper.

Only reason I go there on occasion is for a sale item and I'm already going to be in the area. Otherwise, I'll drive 15 more minutes to Fry's.

But you hate Wal-Mart, MS, and America too, right Ornery? Amused says you must because you hate BB. It can't be because BB loves to screw their customers on a regular basis and you got a taste of that could it?...

Whatever.

in this case, Best Buy really does suck.

Forget what Amused says. He's one of AT's most prominent masters of strawman arguements like the one he presented in this thread. Best Buy, like AOL before them, is doing a fine job of earning their poor reputation, whether they're (currently) #1 or not.

They screwed with me, but I won't let myself get screwed by them.

I bought a remote starter for my wife's van several years ago, and had them install it. Last year, the batteries drained completely out, and it lost all its programed codes. Those clowns didn't even have the unit or instructions to reprogram it. I had to wing it on my own. It may just be our local store, but that particular one SUCKS!

If you've never had a fvcked up experience at your local bestbuy, then I would count yourself lucky. Thinking that EVERY bestbuy is pure sh!t is just retarded. I have 3 local bestbuys in my area. At 2 of them, I get good customer service, but at the 3rd...its just horrible.

Consequently, I don't ever go to that 3rd bestbuy anymore so it isn't a problem. If you don't think that anyone store in a company is a reflection on that company, then you're an idiot. Granted, you shouldn't judge an entire company based on 1 experience at 1 store.

For those of you who say bb is evil b/c they don't like to sell things to "devil" customers...get over yourselves, Bestbuy is the only company with the balls to admit it, but almost all the other retail stores do the same thing.

Bestbuy knows how to make money, they're good at what they do and they compromise things to get there. To most people, that makes them an evil company... *shrugs*

WTF would you make excuses for that sh|t? THAT is NOT just one particular local store. That is their corporate policy! How could anybody be stupid enough to put that in print? How could anybody be stupid enough to patronize a store, with a policy like that, in good faith?

Yes, stupid to put it in print, but they are 1 of many who adopted the same strategy.

BB is horrible plain and simple. If you dont' realize that yet, you are deluded. I won't even bother to elaborate on my poor experiences there, but I will simply say go enjoy buying their $100 DVI cables for plasmas--buahhaha. BB is for suckers, by suckers.

They haven't done anything too bad to me yet. A long time ago, I got my cable internet service from them. When the guy came to install it in my house and on my computer, he messed up my computer and had to a take it away to get it "fixed" for about a month. That was my only computer back then so I was pretty pissed. I went to BB to complain about it, even though I knew they probably wouldn't do anything. It turned out that the manager actually let me BORROW a brand new computer from the store. He let me have it as long as I didn't get my old computer back. I didn't want to be too greedy, but I did pick up a more higher end one... so I was happy.

Because they charge MSRP for the vast majority of items, but they're to cheap to hire educated employees who are fully trained in the merchandise they are hired to sell.

I can't count the number of times I have asked questions of the staff, and received an answer that I knew was patently false, or proved to be so later.

When I cancelled an extended warranty on an item, I had to explain to the BIMBO at the service desk how to calculate the refund. She would have given me less than half of what I was due, if I'd let her.
