The eternal question -- to suck or to blow?

Okay, it has become clear to me that my case is not that great at moving the air around. Probably because I put more crap in it than I ever intended. Oh well, what are ya gunna do. So, I bought an 80mm fan for the open fan mounting location at the REAR of the case. My question is -- should I mount the fan to suck in air, or exhaust air? The case really ony has one other intake -- an 80mm on the side of the case. Should I be more worried about getting hot air out of the case or cool air in? Thanks for any help.

Essentially getting hot/warm air out will pull cooler outside air in. Ideally you want air to come in through the front lower part of the case and to exit near the top rear with minimal "stuff" impeding it's path. What kinda case ya got? Any pics?

From what you described, I would use the side fan as an intake and use the rear fan as an exhaust. Unfortunately your using 80mm's, which compared to the newer "standard" case fan of 120mm just doesn't exchange case air as well.

I just looked through all of the cases on the Egg, but I can't find it. It's a mid sized case, and it has a temperature probe deally connected to a LCD on the front of the case taht lets you set what temperature you want the side fan to come on. That's annoying, because it beeps every time it crosses the threashold. It's a fine case, except for the fact I don't have enough fans to keep it moderately cool. Ugh.

heh :) Well give it a shot with the fan orientation I stated and see how your temps are. Use Everest trial to see waht temps are if you want. Just hook the side fan up to your PSU via molex adaptor or if fan is a 3 pin then connect it to your mobo's fan header (aux or chassis). I would bypass the "beeper" ;)

I'm one of those old fashion types that believes in the front and sides as intake and the rear and top as exhaust. But thats just me.
