The epox 8k5a3+ DOES support a barton 2600+ mobile cpu (with wire mod for the multiplier)

I am pleased to say that with the wire mod, I have set it to 16x multiplier and with an fsb of 166 (agp and pci in spec) and with a voltage of 1.85 I have reached 2.65 GHz. Not too bad at all.

Those with a board like mine, it does work. It wont recognize the name properly but that is just a minor detail. I have to check to see if Windows runs stable with this settings for it will post at 1.7 V but wont boot into windows. Lets see if 1.85 V does the trick.

That's a good question. I know it has support for older t-bred processors with the same bus speed (266 Mhz), but I don't think that necessarily means a mobile 2600 (which has the same bus speed) would work. Anyone else? Maybe you should email Epox (good luck).

I checked the list and it doesnt check off that it supports the 333mhz version but I would think it would support the 266mhz version (and to top it off, this board also does 166mhz, possibly giving me some overclocking room combined with the multiplier on the 2600+)

edit:

For the record on these forums (since searching did nothing for me initially), i have found a link

http://forums.amdmb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=211966&highlight=8k5a3

It shows that a person tried it out on a 2+ but since the 3+ is in fact mostly similar to the 2+ then it should work.

edit2:

I caved :( I just got the 2600+ mobile and once in i will post results.

The chip works as an unsupported CPU and anything higher than 13x multiplier, the comp wont post correct speeds on boot.
