Awesome. Not sure why you didn't just cut and past the whole linked article to show everyone the incredible amount of new information this person learned from seeing a GPU they know nothing about that some unnamed person just happened to be walking around with (or was it sitting on a table for some unknown reason and the unnamed smiling person was standing next to it just so someone one might coincidentally see it and post a useless article like this one since they can't take a picture of it or ask any questions?)? Talk about some horrendous journalism.

@Pariah, go outside, take a walk and take some deep breaths, jeez

On topic, I hope big die Polaris will release just before 2017.

My apologies board mod. There is nothing to discuss here as we don't even know what the person saw. In fact, the person who saw it doesn't know. They are assuming what they saw because there was a smiling person standing near it. So, please tell me what we should be discussing here based on the wealth of in depth reporting the linked article had.

That they already have the 2nd chip as well. Which is pertinent as we didn't know if they were able to fab the larger chip(s) yet.

As far as your 1st post, I don't cut and paste entire articles. I've always been taught it's borderline plagiarism. I know that Tech sites these days are scummy enough to think it's OK to Google stories, reprint them, and simply ad a Source link.

If you don't want to discuss anything about it, that's fine see ya later. If you were polite you'd clean up your thread crapping first though.

quoted cookie stuffer spam post removed

If released anytime around Q4, im ready to buy. Curious to see if they will release a Nano variant - i would love to build a smaller rig this time around and still push a 4K display

They don't know if this is big Polaris or the next tier down (*90/*90X). Assuming the die size of the one they demoed is in the 120mm^2 range as reported I'm thinking likely it's Hawaii replacement rather than Fiji. Still should be enough if they get it out soon-ish to slap anything out now around. If they can fab an 18b transistor monster on 14nm FF already, which I doubt, I'll be really impressed.

Quality journalism :awe:

Could be anywhere from the 370 replacement all the way up to the Fury X replacement.

So are you of the opinion that since they didn't have any more info they shouldn't have reported what they did have? I'm confused with the attack the messenger mentality. :\

Since Raja went public that AMD has 2 Polaris chips for 2016...

Can't have a massive gap from ~110mm2 for the demoed Polaris to a "Big" one... more like a ~300mm2 mid-range Polaris being put into enthusiast SKU at ripoff prices...

True. That's what I was thinking as well. Although we had AMD say once before no new chips this year and they released something anyhow.

Remember Skybridge? They cancelled it, or AM1 who was announced by surprise?

They will release more cards.

But one thing is true.

Next generation will mark history since finally a single card, no matter the brand, finally will deliver us 4K at 60 fps

No, but as was mentioned in the Polaris thread, what he did write was useless given how big this news was.

Was it just a big card with a heatsink? Was it a bare board? Size estimate on the GPU? Was it HBM or GDDR5? If HBM, how many stacks?

The guy basically said he say a big GPU in the hands of someone with a big smile on his face. Hell, he didn't even say the smiling man was an AMD employee.

So, a few days later and still nothing else on this story other than the crappy Tweaktown blurb. If AMD did show people big Polaris, they sure did it quietly.

I swear people forget just how damn good AMD is at hiding information on their graphics.....AMD has said they will do a product stack out to make sure they in back to school.......

we know 2 chips will be here for 2016; their could be a third; we know of small; we know there's a bigger one........where the big Polaris falls we don't know.....;)

I don't think big polaris or for that matter even pascal will come till late 2016. The finfet nodes aren't just mature enough. If somehow they come, the yields will be bad making the chips very expensive.

Indeed, more than half a year after the declaration, we're still not sure how to enable the "overclocker's dream®" setting for the Fury X. AMD has done a fantastic job hiding that information from us.

So, a few days later and still nothing else on this story other than the crappy Tweaktown blurb. If AMD did show people big Polaris, they sure did it quietly.

After a bit more research, I located a picture of the smiling guy and I think I know why the article was so low on details.

Looks like the author had his cyberbrain hacked, removing any useful information he observed including who the person was and who he worked for.

I would assume it is what he said it is and nothing more. So, simply a bigger (enthusiast?) Polaris GPU. Not a card, etc...

This guy is based in Taiwan. He knows different people inside compahies than the Western Press.
