Heh.

This was a trivial school assignment that our teacher assigned us for the hell of it.

You're a scout, and you realize that the enemy is 3 days march by foot. You only had a carrier pigeon, and you engrave a message onto the ... papyrus or whatever... to send to your general.

This is pretty much pre-historic culture, caveman times. No language existed I guess, or maybe it did but it was all chest beating nonsense.

I had a bit of fun with this.

What would YOU have done?

I would imagine that a civilization that was advanced enough to have armies with scouts and generals would have evolved an effective method of communication which could be classified as a language. Otherwise the organization of the army would be useless.

I would roast the carrier pigeon for a quick snack while travelling, and then run like hell for the next day and a half to find my general and deliver the news in person. Any other course of action is foolhardy.

If it's just a bunch of cavemen, wouldn't "on foot' be a given? So you could just draw a stick figure man and three suns.

If there is no language, then how could a bunch of fscking cavemen manage to orgranize to form two distincy armies, where one apparently wants to walk forever to fight another one?

Out smart everyone.

If there is no language to tell this apparent "general"... then how can we be assured that there's even a culture, let alone one worth saving with a warning?

Some people call them Jesus Horses.

There was even a documentary recreation of the domestication process, starring Raquel Welch.

Then again you gotta remember, not everyone was educated back then. Only the highly rich people were.

I would have drawn a stickman, a circle with 3 feet in it, and an arrow pointing from the circle to the man.

Play both sides and tell the enemy general where your alliance general is. Saves you 3 days of walking and possibly net a nice reward.

First day: Discover electricity
Second day: Build a computer
Third day: Invent the internet
Fourth day: Send IM
Profit?

Crap--3 day limit.
