As somewhat an overdue development, Olmert has announced he will call for new leadership
elections for his party on 9/17 and not stand as a candidate.

Then depending on if the new Katima party leader can retain a ruling coalition or not, Israel will have a new leader or new elections with Olmert in lame duck control a little longer.
As an optimist I can hope that Israel will finally help pave the way for a Palestinians State and a general defusing of tensions, but your guess is good as mine on what will end up happening.
